phew, this must be the first time this thread has been bumped where a bunch of people didn't get shot.

No, I'm not for a second arguing that a gun wouldn't do more damage than a knife in the same situation, that would indeed be absurd. What I was trying to say is there have been knife attacks that have produced body counts you would normally associate with a gun attack and it sounded to me like corporatejay was implying that wasn't possible with a knife.

My apologies for the confusion. I'm battling a cold from hell and not thinking straight.
No problem. The reason you got jumped on so hard is that there actually are people who equate these things.

Very sad that this happened at a school.

"Glendale Union High School District alerted parents to the shooting through emails and automatic phone calls and released information on social media, Superintendent Brian Capistran said.

Students typically are not allowed to use their cellphones during lockdowns, but as calls from parents flooded the district, officials asked teachers to have students call family, Capistran said."

So its not a mass shooting or mass killing by any definition. Can we post every murder-suicide or suicide-suicide in this thread too?

It's still a school shooting, so your whiny objection is denied.

What does being an Uber driver have to do with him going crazy and shooting people? He had a registered handgun as well..lets talk about that.

Nothing I would suspect. I should have been clearer. I thought it was an odd bit of info for the police to comment on, that's all.

He was shooting people in between picking up fares.

Not saying that Uber directly contributed to the killings, but it's a relevant piece of the story.

Yeah that part of the story came out later, I wondered why they bothered to say he was a driver for Uber.

Social media saying he was a big NRA guy and freaked out everytime Obama brought up gun control and he had multiple weapons at home.

I would have to shake my head and laugh if this somehow came about banning Uber, ignoring the thing he was holding in his hand to kill people with.

Do something about the guns, particularly handguns. I just don't understand how this can continue to happen, it seems every other month down there and nothing is being done. It is moronic.

In all seriousness, they should move to at least reduce the number of weapons entering society. While I grant you it is difficult to make all the weapons disappear, the current model in the US is not working.

At least in my opinion.

This mess have been made over the 200 or so years. It may take over 200 years to fix.

Aside from the obvious needing to change the gun culture in the US (which I don't know how you start on that one), one thing that could be done is to curb or diminish the sensationalism that mass shootings receive in the US media. Look at the rise in people looking to get armed after big shootings. The media whips up their viewers with fear and then they go out and buy a gun.
