Really like how this one turned out. Thought the way the bar and the ceiling framed it was kind of neat.

白鵬 'Hakuho' - Current Yokozuna:

I may start a Sumo thread in the 'Other Sports' forum when the next Basho starts in May. Any other Sumo fans in CP?

You must have gotten good seats to get that angle/shot.

Ringside seats are roughly 13,500円 (About CAD$140). Cool to be up close and personal and occaisionally have Rikishi coming right at you as they get thrown off the Dohyo. But onlly once for this Gaijin. I am 6ft3 and do not fit very nicely into the small space you have at ringside. It's not a seat persay, you get a cushion to sit on and you sit the same way you would at a Kotatsu for dinner at someone's home.

I prefer the らくらく seats further up where you have way more space and a birds eye view. These go for about 6,000円 (about CAD$65). Sumo goes all day (from about 11am if you want to watch lower division) until about 6pm when the Yokozuna bouts happen. Thus the need for this guy to be comfortable!

I also had a chance to visit the Ryōgoku Kokugikan during the 夏場所 (Summer Tournament) in May. Being the poor students that we were, being way up there for seating it was definitely not a bad seating area to capture the general atmosphere of the arena.

I've always been fascinated with what time does to people, things and places. A few shots that all fit in the "Time" category:

there is another message board that i'm on quite a bit (not nearly as much as cp, but enough!!)

it's a board for chevy truck owners and every month there is a photo competition. this month's topic is: 'favourite place to take your chevy'. now, if i lived in calgary i would have gone up into the one neighbourhood that looks over the saddledome and got a pic of my truck with the dome in the back ground. unfortunately that is not the case. so here's the next best thing i could do!!

my truck is an '89... hence the score

there is a provincial hockey tournament this weekend in kelowna and i'm time keeping a bunch of games. i got this pic today while in the time keepers booth - not bad considering it was thru the glass...

after the game i showed #4 this pic and he almost lost it he was so pumped. he wanted to pay me for a copy and i just laughed and said, 'give me your email address and i'll send it to you as soon as i get home!' i think i have a new best friend! ha! ha!

That is pretty close, I don't think I would be able to guess the subject! what lens are you shooting with, I always wanted to pick up a macro lens, but never did. I need to get back into this tread and posting more.

Once you've gone macro there's no way back, Chris. Take it from the macro-addict.

Lighting becomes especially important in a macro setup. Try playing with backlighting (shining light to the subject from the back) and background lighting (shining light to the background behind the subject) - they do wonders to the final result.

Which lens did you end up buying, btw?

it's the canon macro lens ef 100mm 1:2.8L is usm

http://www.thecamerastore.com/3014-C...ro-IS-USM.aspx

it's definitely fun to use. the probem i find is that it often reminds me how badly i need to dust!! ha! ha!

i'm hoping to play around more with the lighting & angle of those previous pics... but unfortunately 'work calls'
