He's got Cootes-Kindel-Reschny at 15, 16, 17. There's not much separating those three centres in terms of size.

You do wonder if the Flames would favour Kindel given their familiarity and number of viewings? Probably most of the Flames scouts have seen him play in person, when they've been in Calgary for meetings and whatnot. And the Hanlon promotion might suggest Conroy prefers the known and familiar to the unknown.

Then again, Flames haven't drafted a Hitman in a decade (Karnaukhov), and before that it had been 15 years, back when the draft was last in Calgary (Kraun, Davis). Edmonton and Vancouver have each drafted as many Hitmen as the Flames have.

I would be so disappointed if we lost out on all 3 of those players at our pick.

I would not be shocked if all 3 are available at our pick and if all 3 are still available after our pick.

PTSD maybe but these guys read a lot like Morgan klimchuk did. Tweener centers that do a lot of things well but nothing exceptionally well.

I did hear an interview that said cootes plays like his hair is on fire which hit my attention. But I hope we draft a player with a more projectable frame than any of these 3. If upside is middle six you are probably looking at 3rd line. Need to do better than that with our first.

Had a lot of fun talking to Byron Bader tonight about the 2025 draft. Had some weird tech issues early on so don't mind the flashing in the first few minutes, it does go away. Enjoy (especially if you're a huge nerd)

Bukala loves to stir it and try to stand out, Desnoyers to #2, Frondell to #6

Desnoyers at 2 obviously an outlier, but Frondell at 6 doesn't really stand out, no? Wheeler has him at 6, Pronman has him at 6, FC has him at 7. From what I've seen, there seems to be a somewhat consensus second tier with Hagens, Desnoyers, Frondell and Martone from 3 to 6, in whatever order (probably have seen every possible iteration by now lol).

I'm just trying to find some hope that someone will drop and we'll all be impressed with who we got at 18.
Just had a look at the 2024 version.

Consensus had Parekh as the first player in their first pick range, Basha in the 2nd 1st range, and both Mews and Gridin in the first 2nd round pick range.

New full draft mock from Pronman.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/642...ounds-pronman/

Flames get:
18- Reschny
31 - Gastrin
54 - Schmidt
80 - Liam Pettersson (D)
144 - Tinus Luc Koblar (great pick if only for the name!)
175 - Owen Griffin
208 - Andreas Straka

I'd be pretty happy with that.

If the Flames end up with one of Kindel or Reschny in this draft, I would be very happy.

Both would be unreal.

Had the opportunity to play a summer league game against Nathan Behn last week. I can tell you one thing, he’s really really good………compared to me lol.

Anyone have a better scouting report on this Calgary kid?

I'm no scout. Calgary kid played Glenlake 2007 Powerhouse with Jackson Smith. Grandpa is a very prominent Plastic Surgeon in Calgary, mom is a power skating instructor. Would train in Florida in the summers with Darryl Belfry. He is weirdly good. I remember evaluating him year after year and wondering what all the hype was about because he doesn't look amazing at anything but by the end of the game he'd have 8 points. Hands are ridiculous and smart player. Almost like a Luc Robitaille or Kristian Huselius.

I don't think he will put a team on his back like Mark Messier ever but he will put up points.

I'm usually terrible at predicting how good these players will be so take above with a grain assault.

From Twitter this am

Flyers GM Danny Briere on potential trade chatter leading into the NHL Draft: "It feels like everybody's trying to move up at the moment. We've said from the beginning we'd like to try to move up if it was possible. But right now, there's just not a lot of options there."

https://x.com/NHLAdamK/status/193501...7Ctwgr%5Etweet

Better hope something nice falls to 18 or we drop down further and take some wild swings. Trading up could be difficult (fortunately, imho).

Loved watching that, thanks Scorp.

I'm surprised with the size talk that Rossi didn't get briefly talked about. Also, with the "one in a million" chance of drafting 3 superstars in one draft by the same team being super low, I totally forgot about Duchene, ROR, and Barrie all being drafted in the same draft. I think it's safe to say that only happens once a decade, and the Stars got that done in 2017 with Heiskanen, Oettinger, and Robertson.

I agree that it’s rare, but it’s worth noting that the flames had a comparable haul in 2016 with Tkachuk (more consistent 100 point player than Robertson), Fox (won a Norris) and Dube, who was tracking to be a good 2C before you know what happened.

Dallas nearly did it again in 2021 with Johnston and Stankoven. I think it’s safe to say that the Flames and Stars are in the upper echelon of drafting/developing. Calgary's 2024 draft could be another beauty, and I think for teams that are very good in the drafting/developing department, more bullets in the chamber is key.

I'd take either Kindel or West at 31 over Gastrin. But the rest of the draft is pretty good.

Not like it matters, but are we talking about Allan Behm? He's a pimple popper MD (Dermatologist), not a breast inflator.

Could be. I thought that was the same thing but I guess not.
