Yeah, it wasn't looking good after he got bread sticked in the opening set, but he refocused and played much better in the final two sets. Nice backhand here.

Felix just lost to Watanuki. A hobbled and hurting Watanuki at that.
That is, well...how can I say....very no good.

That was a tough loss, but in my opinion that was the best match that Felix has played in 2023. Also, Watanuki red-lined that entire match, I have to think that's the best match he has ever played.

I have to respectfully disagree with the part I bolded. Although Watanuki played rather well in this one, I actually think he played even better than that in his close losses to Tiafoe in Miami & to Hurkacz in Stuttgart.

This was my first extended look at Watanuki, but I'll take your word for it Karl. Maybe I'll check out those other matches if they're still available on Tennis TV.

Felix had 19 winners to 6 unforced errors - Yosuke Watanuki had 32 winners to 15 unforced errors. Both guys played well, but Watanuki prevailed 7-6 7-6 and just managed to win the majority of the big points today.

Sebastian Baez just too good today winning in Kitzbuhel 6-3 6-1 over Dominic Thiem. Very good week for Dominic though reaching the final playing some great tennis along the way.
