Perlini, drafted 12th has stats very similar to Bennett. Sam’s entering his 5th year in the league and if he was going to breakout in any fashion like others of his draft class (Draisaitl, Nylander, Ehlers, Larkin) it would’ve happened by now. Even Sam Reinhart who has been a bit of a disappointment as a #2 pick is showing signs of progression. Bennett is not.

I thought Bennett could have scored a goal or two last night. He's the whipping boy now I guess.

"Could have" .. thats been the case for a bunch of seasons now. At some point, a player is just not good enough... not because they are always unlucky.

It’s been one mid-September preseason game in China. Can we please slow down on the Bennett is a bust talk as it’s going to make for a very long season. Lots of other new players to discuss.

There is a PGT for that..
This is a trade speculation and proposal thread. Generally, players that the team doesnt want get discussed here. Bennett is not a good fit (this is not the first time its being brought up) and maybe he can be traded for a player that may be a good fit.

Hey man, why focus on the positives from the game last night when we can all ***** and moan about a 21 year old that has struggled a bit the past couple of seasons and failed to light it up in his first game of the preseason?
It’s honestly embarrassing. The nice thing is if Bennett struggles again this season, we have a lot of depth. He needs to just go out there, stop listening to all of the noise and try to get some confidence.
I honestly believe 90% of his problems are between the ears. Let the kid play. It is going to be a mighty painful season around here if we have to listen to the same old song and dance every time he makes a mistake.

Hahaha we are back it again. Same old song and dance when some posters on here continue to make excuses for him. Man its gonna be a long and painful season around here with this crap and not holding players accountable. For their sake, i really hope Bennett does well so these people don't look completely rosey.
Once again this is a trade thread. If Mangiapane, Foo, or Dube do really well in camp, then Bennett should be waived or moved to make room for them.

Once again, 0% chance Bennett gets waived and the mere suggestion of that is pure comedy.
Did I make a single excuse for his play? Nope. All I said was that I believe his struggles are 90% mental.
I’m happy guys like you hold the players accountable. All the negativity and crying is clearly helping their play on the ice. Solid stuff. Keep fighting the good fight.

You are right, suggesting that we should package him up in a trade for a goalie if it becomes necessary is definitely negativity and crying. You are welcome though, it's nice to have fans who don't fall in love with every single player, appreciate the kind words
Pure comedy? Can you enlighten me why he deserves a sure-fire spot on the team? Please?

How so? There are other players just like Bennett who get waived. What does Bennett bring that other top 9 forwards don't? Draft pedigree?
I would much rather him be traded than waived. But what more does a guy like Mangiapane need to do (if it comes down to those 2)? He has been busting his ass as a late pick while Bennett has been handed everything because of when he was drafted.

I don't know if everyone was watching a different Bennett than me last night, he had several strong individual efforts to get scoring chances, and he was one the right side of the puck all day long. Does he look like he'll put up 50 points this year? Probably not. But he'll outscore the other two guys on his line handily.
He is not the problem on the Flames, the only negative thing he's done is fail to meet pre-draft expectations. There are more worthy players to run out of town.

Everyone has their own opinion and I respect yours. Mine is opposite but I don't appreciate being called out on it when all i did was suggest a trade where he is involved for a superstar goalie.
I personally don't think Hathaway belongs on that line either. However, i would be willing to bet that he will not outscore Mark Jankowski.

I am ok with Bennett, I think Hathaway is more of a problem, you might as well put Peluso on there if you are going have a tough guy. If you watch that line closely there are always 1 or 2 players hanging on to Bennett or Jankowski, the right wing is completely ignored and its like a 4 on 5 when they attack.
if you don't have some serious muscle get some other skill to play with the other two on that line, perhaps one of the newer players/prospects.

No actually its still way too early to say that. Kid just turned 22. That’s younger than Jankowski before he made the NHL.
Some of you have no patience at all. It’s sad

Are you very sad when guys like Poirier and Hunter Smith dont get offers? I mean they are young too. Damn, the Flames management have no patience at all. You should write them a letter.

Don’t see the parallel there bud. Nice try though
1 is a young NHLer who struggled under a bad coach. The other two are failed prospects.

Hmmm... don’t think that gets it done. Bennett has about the trade value of a 2nd round pick right now IMO. Parsons too. Smith really has little to no trade value unless a team finds itself without a starting goalie because of an injury.
Bob’s contract status aside, is he the guy to tie this team’s fortunes to for next 5 years or so? Maybe.

I'm predicting it will be Dube who takes Bennett's place.
Goes without saying, it's make or break time for Sam and the Flames. I suspect Peters is going to give him a good shot at finding a role on this team. The Flames like Sam; his attitude, work ethic, and skill set. I think they still see the kid they drafted, but for one reason or another he just has not been able to connect the dots. Gone are the coaching and linemate issues. Even if he's the on the fourth line, he will have better line mates.
I like Bennett, or at least the idea of what Bennett can be. I've kind of thought he should be a bigger more skilled version of Brendan Gallagher. Gritty, skilled, and a motor the doesn't slow down.
The realist in me tends to think he's moved at the deadline to recoup some of the picks the Flames have spent over the past 2-3 years. He'll be replaced internally by Dube. Hope I'm wrong.
