I hate England with a passion at rugby and cricket but find myself cheering for them at football. The first time I went out to a bar to watch a Cup game was England Brazil in 2002 where the English blew a lead, were scored on from halfway, and couldn't score up a man for over 30 minutes and I have always felt sorry for them. The db fans make it hard though and I will not be that upset if Croatia beats them.

At the Whitecaps game today the fans chanted "Neymar, Neymar, Neymar" to a player they though was exaggerating. I'm not sure if that would be taken as an insult though.

Haha I'm the opposite, I'll support England in cricket when they're playing a team i dislike (so basically just Australia and South Africa) but in football they're the last team I'll cheer for. Rugby, nah. Had a good laugh when Wales eliminated them in 2015.

If you think the English fans can be bad, that's just because you don't understand Croatian. Their football has a serious Neo-Nazi problem.
There's some of that even on the team itself.

That's a pretty large leap in logic to say the team has a serious neo nazi problem. It's a nationalistic song that is popular among far right wing nationalists. That's it.

Rigghht, because this is the first time neo-nazism has reared its ugly head in relation to Balkan football.

The fans have had a lot of issues but usually it's a small sect of hooligans who we're trying to get Croatia disqualified and banned as a form of protest against the national football federation.
I was simply stating that it's really unfair to say the team itself has a huge nazi problem cuz one player with no prior history I'm aware of sang a nationalistic song that's fairly anti Serbian.

That song nor the artist have anything to do with fascism. He is an anti communist, and communist sympathizers in Croatia have been running a propaganda campaign against him for years. The establishment is very left leaning in that country and if anyone disagree with them or call out their corruption, they are immediately labelled a fascist.
You can probably find tons of "evidence" online linking him or his supporters to fascism, but it's patently false.
Having said that, there are fascist elements in Croatia as with every European country. But it's not widespread nor is it the norm. It's frustrating to read these accusations time and time again. I'd hate for this thread to turn political so I wish to say no more about it.

I was laughing at that also. I also enjoyed a couple of heckles against Schweinsteiger for Germany's performance.

I missed those. How did they heckle someone who wasn't on that failure of a team and who already has a last name that translates to "pig ****er"?

Turkish ref has been given the England-Croatia semi
Uruguayan ref to get France-Belgium semi, that's two matches in a row France gets the ref from the country that they just knocked out.

I've never really forgiven him for the Nani red card. He's aptly named.
Mind you the bright light is the next couple of days people get to ask Terry about him bringing up all those memories when he was deprived of a CL final.

Ready to take the 5th penalty.
Reports saying he might be on his way to join Rodgers at Celtic. That'll be both slippy Captains in Glasgow now.

I can't speak to the "quality" of the Telegraph:

Quote:
It can also be revealed that Fifa is fully aware of this but chose to keep quiet about it after controversially letting the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) off with a warning for the display of “political/discriminatory banners” by supporters.
The governing body, which claims to have a “zero tolerance” approach to racism, confirmed yesterday its disciplinary committee had sanctioned the HNS with a secret slap on the wrist following their Group D opener against Nigeria.

So an English side always gets a player sent off during a big international match when Cakir is the ref...is that what I'm supposed to take from all this?
Dele Alli better make sure he's on his best behaviour.

Another Martinez masterclass? Dembele is in and you'd think he's playing wingback given the rest of the lineup.
