Filpulla has no value right now, considering they need the cap space. At 5 mill, its a big pass, if they retained 50% then one might give a guy a like shinkaruk.

Filppula has putrid advanced stats and is in no way comparable to Backlund.
With another year remaining with a $5 million cap hit, he shouldn't have any value.

That's a bit disingenuous. He's never had scored at a lower than 60 point pace and has 368 points in 488 games. More valuable than you're giving him credit for.
I wonder if he or Bennett has more value cause I'd love one of the Avs.

Eberle is a one zone player who isn't even THAT great in that one zone anymore. He's being compensated at a high rate already.
If I'm the Avs, I see very little merit in acquiring Eberle.
Bennett has a chance to be a much more valuable player and for a rebuilding team, that should be an apple and boats comparison.

Bennett's a mystery box though.
He could easily end up being a grinder or a 60 point player at this point. You can't tell me one is more likely than the other.
Bennett is young though so he would be a good fit for a team that needs to blow it up.

Further to @DennisTFP post, SJ/VAN have indeed talked about Miller. Not close, could progress. Concerns over cap & playing time. We'll see.

I'd rather we work with the mystery box, that is Bennett.

Sam Bennett - - who by all measures is having a struggling season - - is still on pace to hit 14 goals. The fourteen goals in the middle of a putrid rotten season. Players who could "easily" end up as a grinder don't score 14 goals when they're struggling, they score 2.

Jarret stoll is a grinder who scored nearly 70 points as a career high.
I would be ecstatic if Bennett turned into stoll. I don't think that kind of comparison is unflattering. Grinders are valuable too. Every nieuwy needs an Otto behind them.

Les Canucks pourraient bien échanger Ryan Miller. Calgary et San Jose, entre autres, cherchent un gardien présentement. #lavoiedubé

Someone that scores 2 goals is a 'tweener.
Someone that can't break 20G 40P is usually reserved for the 3rd line.

Really? How many 40 point 20 goal scoring third lines are there?

To me Miller is not an upgrade on Elliott or Johnson. We had our chance to add a better goalie for cheap and we are playing against him tonight instead. Unless we can get a young guy like Mrazek then just ride it out with our tandem and revisit in the summer

Does that apply to a sophomore who is only 20? Or should we instead be patient and give him a little bit of time to adjust and reach his potential.

I think Miller is definitely an upgrade on Elliott.
I don't know if that holds true for next year though

It's actually a fair comment since he said second liners are expected to get 40+ points and anything below that production puts you into 3rd line status.
67 NHL centers had 40+ points last year.
90 NHL centers had 30+ points last year.
That means 2nd liners will usually get you 40+ points, and 3rd liners production falls in the 30-40 point range.
Considering Sam Bennett had 36 points as a 19 year old rookie, we should probably give him some time to develop a little more before writing him off as a grinder.

I just can't see Calgary going after a rental goalie when Bishop was available for pennies and we didn't even make an offer. I think Treliving is either looking for a veteran for the next 2-5 years or a younger starter that could be a 10 year guy. Miller is a pure rental

Sobotka is an interesting pick-up. Not sure what he has done in the KHL, but I really liked his game when he was in St. Louis. Seems a little weird that he would be playoff eligible. When does the KHL end its season?

I never said anything about his potential.
I was asking who would have more value to the Avs in the hopes of getting Landeskog or Duchane...
Eberle or Bennett?
Young Mystery Box vs. 60 point guy in his prime.
