Trade whatever the Flames get for Coleman & Kadri and throw those assets at Robert Thomas. I'd love to have him on the Flames even in a rebiggle.

Thomas is good, but he's no Quinn Hughes.

It’s likely the same challenge do some teams trying to acquire kadri or Coleman and something the flames are juggling (who to retain on as I’m sure all teams want retention).

re: Vegas not having room for Rasmus without retaining salary. Is that true? Puckpedia shows them with room at the deadline factoring the money in their LTIR pool.

Robert Thomas to Utah would make a ton of sense; Bill Armstrong knows the player, and have young assets for the rebuilding Blues

Thomas seems a bit old for that role though. Wouldn't mind the Flames going after someone who hasn't produced quite as well as Thomas but is younger.

No team is giving up a young 1C. 26 is as young as I've ever seen such a trade.
What Cs were you thinking of?

Why exactly might the 26 year old top line centre be available? St Louis budget problems?

Parekh just started following Simashev a few days ago on Twitter. Probably nothing since no trade has been made and Parekh wouldn't be one of the ones that are consulted on these deals.

Simashev would be a better get than Tiggy- call me crazy all you want but he is a unicorn. I doubt think he's available too. Just played in the AHL all star game with Gridin though and had a funny video with him in the locker room.

Relationship between him and management for a few years...

Trading for Thomas is exactly what I fear the Flames ownership will pressure for. He's the kind of guy you should be looking at in 2-4 years after you've accumulated high-end assets at the draft, not right as you're entering the bottoming-out years that gets you that high end draft capital.

This is exactly what I expected, except for the tidbit on CC hunting 26 picks.

Interesting. I was looking at capwages and they show them at $1m left. Figured that might be worth a little more at the deadline but didn't think cap accrued when players are on LTIR.
I guess that's why teams have their own capologists.

Thomas is the type of guy that will command a recent top 10 pick as a piece in a trade. To me he makes more sense for a team like Seattle, Utah, Buffalo, Detroit. Teams that have some nice pieces in the pipeline but are also looking to move their programs forward now and make the playoffs.

Yeah I can't bring myself to try and work out the math.
Hopefully using up the retention slot on Rasmus was worth it, because I do think it is making Controy's life harder if in fact he is serious about dealing multiple veterans by the deadline. In general, you'd have to believe teams would value retention for Kadri and Coleman much more.
Credit to GioforPM who first pointed this out in evaluating the Rasmus trade. I didn't think about it much at the time, maybe because I didn't seriously think Conroy would be that active.
Guess we'll see.
