And in case you typically skip it, do not skip the intro credits....they 'Lower Decked' the Strange New Worlds intro.

And Pike/Mount in this episode was just absolutely brilliant...when he was angry/annoyed/disappointed...his facial expressions actually hurt me.
You can just feel how it killed Boimler.
This whole episode...brilliant...just brilliant.

Thanks for pointing that out, I skipped through it like usual, but it was so worth it to go back and watch it.
I didn't expect some of the things they threw in there.
Also I didn't know that this episode was directed by Jonathon "Fricken Corn" Frakes

When Boimler sits on the saddle, he swings his leg over the top and says "Riker".
Even funnier that the episode was directed by Frakes.

I still want an episode 'Who Killed Roger Rabbit' style, but this was still so, so good.
And come on....give us another Time Travel episode where Pike goes to the Cerritos!
If Lower Decks can invade SNW then SNW can invade Lower Decks!!
11/10 for me.
I havent been this entertained by an episode of Star Trek since DS9's 'Trials and Tribble-ations.'

Not that the bar was set high, but easily the best Trek episode since the end of DS9.
Going to be one of the top Trek episodes for a long time to come.

I never skip this one cause even though it's not original, I think the song is a banger and gets me in the mood. another thing this show does far better than Disco/Picard.
blasphemy moment though, my favorite ST theme is still the Kelvinverse one. no other musical cue sounds like "space adventure exploration time" than that one, even if they didn't really end up doing a whole lot of that in the movies.

Now if we could have it that the Discovery returns from the future, and comes through a portal to see the Enterprise and hear the voice of Pike "Open fire". Then have an hour of multiple views of Discovery blowing up in slow motion, my joy would be complete.

I may be the only person in the thread excited about the musical episode. But I'm theatre gay so that tracks.

And some people love it and thats great, musicals just generally arent my thing.
That being said, I'm obviously going to watch it and reserve judgement, because SNW is essentially batting 1000 at the moment so I'm not convinced that even though I'm not big into musicals that its going to let me down now.
So while musicals arent my thing, SNW is a show that absolutely knows what its about, so...benefit of the doubt.
As far as this show goes, even its weakest offerings are still pretty damned good.

My ONLY real complaint about the musical episode is that we don't get 20 a season so I can't just skip one happily. I also don't like musicals typically, and really find they ruin some characterizations from me in another popular shows (the one in Lucifer was brutal for this imo.)
That being said, I'm sure they can trelane this one up or something (he and q were very obviously name dropped twice during this week's episode). So that takes care of my mischaracterization problem. No doubt I will in fact watch it, I am just griping about the idea. I dislike the concept being pervasive in big ticket tv shows.
