Wideman's contract ends after the 16-17 season too.

That's the problem: the Flames can't just fire Wideman into the sun. They need someone to take on their problem. I suspect that will cost them something.

I think Yakupov can still be salvaged if coached properly. If we can dump wideman in the process, even better.
The question is, why would he waive to hop on a sinking if not an already sunk ship?

Wideman's NMC could be an obstacle, I'm just hoping that since he's going to be 32/33 and in a contract year looking for one more decent contract, that if the Flames can find a home for him where he'll get top 3 D minutes along with 1st pairing PP that he'll be willing to waive. He's not getting that here next year, or at least he shouldn't be with Gio/Brodie/Hamilton all ahead of him.

To think that's what Yak's value potentially is. Is frightening.

Yakupov's value may be very low for a recent FOA, it's much higher than the negative value of Wideman

I think wideman would waive to go to Edmonton. He'd be one of their top guys, he'd be on the PP1 with McSadface and would likely put up a lot of points and he could atribute high goals against to be on the oilers. It would pad his stats for the year so he could go after a big contract next year. I would take yak for wideman in a second.

Exactly why would Yakupov's value be frightening, unless you were and Ouler fan? What has Yakupov done to maintain much value? Seriously, why would we want Yakupov?

Oilers would no doubt prefer Hamonic and giving up a centre like Nuge

I'm sure Treliving would too as it's a low risk move but at the same time I wouldn't expect much out of Yakupov outside of the odd hot streak as he's not a very good NHL player and will likely never be.

It's just so sad that in such a short time a first overall has such low value.

I think the league knows what they have in Wideman. He got 56 points a 32 year old, 45 as a 29 year old, and 50 points as a 26 year old.
He's also averaged better than 30pts per season since 2007. His value hasn't changed IMO, other than he's got a big expiring salary

I heard some rumours this winter regarding Hudler's absence from the lineup that wasn't really injury related. If true this could prevent him from ever returning here but I wonder...if the market for his services aren't what he anticipated (Glencross syndrome) I wonder if he might come back to Calgary on a less expensive deal. He seemed to love playing with the Gaudreau and Monahan and they had tremendous chemistry. I don't know, just spit ballin'

I think you're cherry picking and no GM will see him that way. He's got more than 22 points once in the last 4 years.
They know what they're getting. A broken down 33 year old powerplay specialist who is a defensive liability on a top 4 salary. That's negative value. If you trade Wideman, you add a pick and very a worse pick out salary dump back

The only Wideman deal that makes sense for Calgary is for a veteran forward (or goalie?) on a similar $ expiring contract.

Yeah but his point per game averages have been good. You're cherrypicking a shortened season and two injured seasons?
And Wideman isn't a defensive liabilty against opponents he should be defending. He's a liability when he's defending top lines, but as we saw with the Flames playoff run, Wideman can hold his own. GMs aren't going to be bitter like you, they're going to be neutral. If the Flames retained 50% of his salary he would not be negative. Justin Shultz and Roman Polack (who had expiring contracts) are your comparables

Wideman at 50% retained would definitely have value. Teams are always looking for depth on defense. Some of you act like the guy's Justin Schultz. He's horrible relative to his peers that make equal money, but he's not completely incompetent as a #5 guy for $2.5mil/year.

I'm sure he appreciates the offer, but what makes you think Yakupov would even want you to do Wideman?
