To me, they sounded like a garage band. Primitive in all aspects. I have no idea how these bands are selected. Yet, three posters here loved it. Weird.

My musical opinion, in fact probably all my opinions, suck but I'll say that I thought the musical guest was garbage this week.

Jack Antonoff aka Bleachers is a multi-Grammy award winner who has several bands and produces for artists such as Taylor Swift and Lorde. That’s how you get selected, no matter if your band is any good.

No love for Will Forte? I thought he was great but I always loved his eccentric style. Yes it was a shameless plug for the new MacGruber series but so what.
Sarah Sherman stole the show again on Weekend Update. She’s excellent.
Solid episode.

Funniest episode they've done in a while. Forte was great, but I agree, Sarah Sherman definitely stole the show. She's by far my favorite new cast member this year. I enjoyed the old style MacGruber skits as well.
That new series is hilarious by the way. It's very similar in tone to the movie, so plenty of over the top silliness and R-rated humor.

I love MacGruber but thought the sketches they did this week were just tired anti-vaxx jokes. Overall I was pretty disappointed.
The cold open was awful except for the fact Ego triggered Candace Owens. The best response I saw on twitter was that she was mad about being portrayed by a black woman.
Sarah was the highlight again. Hopefully she’ll get to really get weird but that’s unlikely.
The band was “real” music again so the geezers should be pleased.

The band was good, but why oh why is the mix always crap on SNL.
It doesn't seem to matter what type of music, the mix is always a mess.

Another solid Mulaney episode tonight. LCD Soundsystem still sounds like an opening act for Talking Heads. A few camera/timing issues.
Touching opening.

Not sure what’s being going on with the technical side but they’ve blowing shots/cues for a while now. That Five Timers bit was awful in that regard.

What happened with Weekend Update? It was super short, and no guests.

That seemed too similar to this:

Looks like a lot of turnover coming up.

Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon and Kyle Mooney are all expected to leave “Saturday Night Live” after it ends its 47th season tomorrow evening, according to a person familiar with the matter. The actors’ departures are likely to draw a new burst of attention to the long-running program, which typically uses its summer hiatus to recalibrate its cast of players and contributors.
NBC declined to make producers at “SNL” available for comment.

Dang that’s some big losses. Wasn’t a fan of money originally but he grew on me. Bryant and MacKinnon are all-time. Pete is Pete. He will be missed.

It was surprising that Kate, Pete, and Aidy all came back this season, especially when they seemed to do big goodbyes at the end of last season. So, it's not really shocking if they leave this year. I'd bet that COVID uncertainty probably played a factor in them deciding to return.
In last week's episode, Che seemed to hint that he might be leaving too.
Cecily was another one who seemingly did her goodbye last season, then came back.
If Kenan comes back, next year will be his 20th season on the show. His sitcom just got cancelled, so he might come back to hit the milestone.
