Brzustewicz probably increased his value from a 2nd round pick (where he was drafted) to a late 1st after his D+1 season. Looking for prospects to target in trades even if they aren’t recent 1st rounders. Would love to know of any from teams rumoured to be in on the Kadri/Coleman/Weegar/Whitecloud.

Why I ask is because so many of us (including myself) want that top prospect from a team in one of these trades but the reality is that teams so rarely trade their top prospect unless they are starting to trend down (eg. Greentree from LA). It’s even more rare if the team is including a 1st round pick in the trade already. So if the flames can’t get that top prospect, from a team, who is the really good prospect to target while also getting a 1st round pick?
Here's a few from teams rumoured to be dealing with the Flames:

DETROIT:
RW Jesse Kiiskinen (6'1",190lbs) was taken in the 3rd-round in 2023 by Nashville, but is the 3rd-leading U-21 player in the Liiga, with 24 points in 46 games. Really like this kid,
W Eddie Genborg (6'2",198lbs) was taken in the 2nd-round last summer, but should've been taken in the late-first. 21 points in 36 SHL games, makes him 3rd for U-20 players as an 18 year-old wrecking ball.
Other players of interest are C Carter Bear, C Max Plante, RW Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, D Nikita Tyurin, C Noah Dower-Nilsson, C Nate Danielson, LW Michal Svrcek, D William Wallinder, D Shai Buium.

MINNESOTA:
RW Ryder Ritchie (6'2",190lbs) was taken in the 2nd-round in 2024, which surprised me. He's grown a few inches since being drafted. 15 points in 31 NCAA games as a 19 year-old.
D Justin Kipkie (6'4",216lbs) was drafted twice, both times in the 5th-round. I wouldn't have expected him to have 13 points in 33 NCAA games as a 20 year-old. He was born in Calgary.
Other players of interest are RW Lirim Amidovski, C Charlie Stramel, C Adam Benak, C Carter Klippenstein, C Riley Heidt, D Aron Kiviharju, D Carson Lambos.

NEW JERSEY:
RW Lenni Hameenaho (6'1",185lbs) was drafted in the second-round in 2023, and 15th in Liiga scoring in 2024-25 as a 20 year-old. 4 points in 9 NHL games, 22 points in 34 AHL games this year.
RW Ben Kevan (6'1",179) was taken in the second-round last year, and while he may not be outplaying his draft status (10 points in 32 NCAA games), and will never be a first-liner, he will be a good one. He's grown a few inches as well.
C Conrad Fondrk (6'0",203lbs) same as Kevan. He has 8 points in 24 NCAA games.
C Gustav Hillstrom (6'2",181lbs) was drafted in the 4th-round last year, but he's going to be a good two-way player once he fills out. 28 points in 22 U20 games, with 23 games (1 point) in the SHL.
Other players of interest are D Anton Silayev, D Seamus Casey, C Mason Moe.

MONTREAL:
RD Bryce Pickford (6'1",185lbs) was drafted in the third-round last year in his D+1 season, but the Habs won't trade him now. 65 points in 44 WHL games.
LD Adam Engstrom (6'2",190lbs) was drafted in the third-round in 2022, but has 33 points in 40 AHL games as a 22 year-old.
C Hayden Paupanekis (6'5",203lbs) has 31 points in 44 WHL games, and is more of a defensive specialist right now, but he's a good one with big upside. 3rd-round in 2025.
C Aatos Koivu (6'0",170lbs) is wasting away in the Liiga, with 9 points in 42 games. Lots of potential there. 3rd-round in 2024.
RW Alexander Zharovsky (6'1",163lbs) was taken in the 2nd-round, but should've gone in the first. Once he fills out, he'll be a beast, and already has 38 points in 48 KHL games as a 19 year-old.
LW Logan Sawyer (6'1",174lbs) has 25 points in 31 NCAA contests, and was drafted in the third-round in 2024 from the Brooks Bandits.
Other players of interest are C Michael Hage, C Owen Beck, D Owen Protz, D David Reinbacher, D William Trudeau, D Carlos Handel, C Sean Farrell.

DALLAS:
LW Brandon Gorzynski (6'2",190lbs) was drafted in the 4th-round last year, but has 64 points in 54 WHL tilts.
RW Dawson Sharkey (6'1",190lbs) is tough, mean, and gritty. Drafted in the 6th-round last summer, he's got 51 points in 50 games in the Q, with 102 PIM.
LD Tristan Bertucci (6'2",187lbs) is a 2023 second-rounder, but has 19 points in 44 AHL games as a 20 year-old. I've always been a fan.
C Atte Joki (6'2",201lbs) is looking more like a bottom-six C, but has played an impressive 38 games this season in the Liiga, with 12 points as an 18 year-old. 2025, 5th-round.
Other players of interest are W Cameron Schmidt, W Emil Hemming, LW Jaxon Fuder, RW Samu Tuomaala, D Niilopekka Muhonen.

TAMPA BAY:
RW Marco Mignosa (6'0",172lbs) has 77 points in 55 OHL contests, and is a solid all-around player, taken in the 7th-round last summer in his D+2 season.
C Benjamin Rautiainen (6'0",183lbs) has an amazing 64 points in 50 Liiga games as a 20 year-old- drafted in the 4th-round last summer in his D+2.
C Ethan Czata (6'2",179lbs) isn't truly outperforming his draft position of 56th-overall in 2025, but he's going to be an impact player in the NHL.
C Kaden Pitre (6'0",185lbs) won't be a top-six NHL player, but he has put up 29 points in 29 games since being traded to North Bay (OHL). He's tough and gritty. 2024, round #6.
LD Jan Golicic (6'5",201lbs) has 20 points in 18 games since being traded to the Armada (QMJHL). Big, physical, two-way D was drafted in the 4th-round of 2024.
Other players of interest are C Sam O'Reilly, RW Conor Geekie, C Dylan Duke, C Jayson Shaugabay, D Everett Baldwin, C Aiden Foster, RW Ethan Gauthier, C Hagen Burrows.

FLORIDA:
RW Arvid Drott (6'0",187lbs) was drafted in the 6th-round in 2025, but most had him in the top-96. Physical, two-way winger with abundant physicality.
C Linus Eriksson (6'0",190lbs) was drafted in the second-round in 2024,and is already a fixture in the SHL as a 19 year-old. Solid two-way C.
C Simon Zether (6'3",194lbs) was taken in 2024, in the 4th-round, much to my surprise. As with Eriksson, he's in the SHL as a 20 year-old, with 7 points in 35 games.
LD Matvei Shuravin (6'2",172lbs) is a swift skating, two-way D, taken in the 3rd-round in 2024.
Other players of interest are RW Gracyn Sawchyn, LW Jack Devine, LW Shea Busch, RW Shamar Moses, D Vladislav Lukashevich.

OTTAWA:
LD Gabriel Eliasson (6'7",220lbs) isn't outperforming his draft placement, but he's huge sociopath who likes to cause pain and piss off opposing players. He'll be an impact player one day.
Players of interest are D Carter Yakemchuk, LW Javon Moore, LW Blake Montgomery, D Logan Hensler, D Eerik Wallenius.

SAN JOSE:
RW Carson Wetsch (6'2",201lbs) was taken in the third-round in 2024, but has 61 points (71 PIM) in 53 games as Captain of the Rockets (WHL).
C Teddy Mutryn (6'1",209lbs) was taken in the 3rd-round last summer, but has 58 points (50 PIM) in 46 games in the Q, as a physical power forward. Love this kid.
C Max Heise (6'3",172lbs) has been pegged as a defensive C, but there's no telling what he'll do when he bulks up. 55 points in 53 WHL games. 2025, round #5 in his D+1.
D Colton Roberts (6'4",209lbs) was drafted in the 5th-round in 2025, but should have been taken earlier. Solid skater, physical two-way D, with 10 points in 26 NCAA games as a 19 year-old.
C Cole McKinney (6'0",201lbs) was drafted in the 2nd-round last summer, but I had him in the late first-early second. Hard-nosed, two-way C has 15 points in 32 NCAA contests as an 18 year-old.
Other players of interest are C Filip Bystedt, D Erik Pohlkamp, LW Igor Chernyshov, D Luca Cagnoni, LW Quentin Musty, C Cam Lund, RW Kasper Halttunen, D Haoxi Wang, D Nolan Allan, RW Yegor Rimashevsky, D Leo Sahlin Wallenius, D Ilyas Magomedsultanov, C Michael Misa.

CAROLINA:
RW Justin Poirier (5'8",185lbs) was drafted in the 5th-round in 2024, but has 18 goals and 29 points in 27 NCAA games as a 19 year-old.
C Charlie Cerrato (6'0",194lbs) is a feisty C who was drafted in the 2nd-round of the 2025 draft in his D+2 season, and has 24 points in 19 NCAA games.
LD Kurban Limatov (6'4",192lbs) was taken in the third-round last summer, but most had him in the 2nd at the latest. 26 points in 40 MHL games.
D Noel Fransen (6'1",194lbs) has been playing pro hockey all year as a 20 year-old, but was drafted in the 3rd-round in 2024.
W Fyodor Avramov (6'3",207lbs) is a physical power forward with skill, taken in the 6th-round in 2024. He has played in the KHL (25 games), the VHL (5 games), and has 16 points in 14 MHL games.
W Nikita Artamonov (5'11",192lbs) put up amazing numbers in the KHL last season, but isn't doing so well this year.
Other players of interest are LW Brad Nadeau, RW Felix Unger-Sorum, C Ivan Ryabkin, LW Alexander Perevalov, D Timur Kol, D Aleksei Heimosalmi, D Simon Forsmark, D Roman Shokhrin, D Dominik Badinka, C Oskar Vuollet, D Roman Bausov, D Alexander Siryatsky.

He’s 6’ 9”. There isn’t a long line of guys willing to fight him. I love Klapka, but he can’t fight. Rempe went toe to toe with Reaves, guys are scared of him. If we were two years down the line and pushing for a playoff spot, I wouldn’t want him near this team. But that’s not where we are.

The anti fighting crowd is gonna jump in here like always. I just want a guy on the bench so guys don’t take runs at Zary’s knees. Or take runs at Wolf.

Again, everyone wants us to suck, Rempe sucks. What’s the negative here? Kerins won’t get 5 minutes on the fourth line?

I’m not opposed to Rempe or another enforcer.

But NYR are also rebiggling. Would they not want to keep him for the same reason the Flames would want to acquire him?

Im all for it. Depends on the asking price, of course
I agree. I could see the Rangers getting a top pick this year and then adding in free agency. If they landed McKenna, they will not be rebuilding next year.

I really want Ryabkin on the Flames. A-hole to play against and has some serious skill.

Not into getting beaten on the scoreboard and beaten down physically. Let the kids keep some dignity at least.

I wonder how close these trades are in value, as I think they could work for both sides and are with teams who are linked.

Cgy;
Brodin - 6Mil for 2yrs
Stramel - Signing rights

Min;
Kadri - 7Mil for 3yrs
Hanley - 1.75mil for 1yr

Cgy;
Lyubushkin - 3.25Mil for 1yr
26' 2nd
27' 2nd (1st if we retain)

Dal;
Coleman - 4.9Mil for 1yr
Pachal - 1.188Mil for 1yr
If they want Whitecloud (2.75Mil for 2yrs), I want Hemming and the above

Minor trade. Glad the Armstrong and Drache had 2 weeks to figure out the details!
