Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. What I'm saying is giving buddies/donors ambassador jobs is certainly nothing new, is it awesome? No. But an ambassador job is light years different than giving someone the Education portfolio that is quite possibly the worst person for that job.

I mean who in the #### said corruption is only a Trump admin thing? Corruption is one of the rare "both sides, many sides" that actually is true. Doesn't matter whether its private business or unions or politicians, we all know power corrupts. Helping your friends always takes precedence over doing the right thing, even in real life among the plebs it happens.

The core difference between Democrats and Republicans is that there is no difference. They both exist to make their particular friends and family richer.
Any policy decisions outside of that sphere are designed to not interfere with the core principle. Difficult to find a political system that is different than this. The better ones are just better at hiding it.

I don’t know if you’re aware that there’s a Canadian federal election and a Calgary municipal election happening soon and within about a month of each other. Our own politics are actually … well I don’t know if interesting is the right word, but … at the very least, they’re certainly more ‘top of mind’ than whatever is happening south of the border at the moment. I haven’t watched anything US-centric with respect to political coverage in at least a month now, even David Pakman isn’t even showing in my YouTube feed much lately.
So perhaps instead of your incessant whining, you could just do it yourself and if someone is interested enough to want to discuss it, they will. If not, oh well.

That's all well and good but this the American politics thread, the place to whine all about U.S. stuff. Right?

Sure, but he’s whining about the lack of other people whining about U.S. stuff and attributing it to ‘because it isn’t Trump doing it’. Corsi pointed out why this doesn’t really mesh with what’s going on. And I’m pointing out that this thread is likely a ghost town because Canadians are actually engaged with their own politics for once.

Anyone following the California recall vote on September 14? It's getting tight and there are no democrat candidates if the vote goes Yes.
Question 1: Do Californians want to Keep Gavin Newsom? (Keep or Remain)
Question 2: Whom would Californians want to replace Gavin Newsom as governor? Larry Elder is leading by a large margin. Yes, Larry Elder the talk show host.
Democrats have bet their entire hand on Question 1. But the polls right now suggest a slim lead for Keep.
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...-recall-polls/
Another thing to consider is that Dianne Feinstien is 88 years old and has three years left on her term. If Elder is governor and she vacates her seat, the Republicans suddenly get another Senator.
This is serious and Biden is headed to California next week.

In what way? The health care industry is run by a disgusting bunch of ghouls who make billions of dollars off of the suffering and misery of others.
What they do on an ethical level isn't fundamentally different than what Prince isn't doing. That said, Prince should be in jail.

Well, for starters, I doubt that Prince donates to the current administration, while the health care certainly does, so….
Fundamentally, politicians don’t really care if you profit off of the misery and suffering of others, as long as you pay the politicians off in the process.

Rubes pretty much right here.
In both instances if the government wanted to eliminate the profit off suffering they could provide the service.
In both instances they fail to provide these services. In this case the failure is more accute and easier to solve. But overall when the government doesn’t provide a service you can’t really complain when the private sector charges market rate for said service.

Cali is right, though, it's not a totally fair comparison. A few hundred or few thousand people might die due to Eric Prince's greed and ghoulish behaviour, and he may face some consequences for his actions. Whereas tens of millions of people will die from the for profit health care system and the people responsible will go unpunished or be rewarded with cushy government jobs.
