My last three flights, including the fiasco in DC two months ago:
  1. three-hour delay; bag didn't make connecting flight, delivered to me ~24 hours after arrival
  2. no issues
  3. 72-hour delay; bag didn't make flight, delivered to me ~52 hours after arrival

I hadn't realized the eurowings service was that frequent.

In the past I suspect we've had 3x to LHR when AC was double daily and BA had a flight.

Yup, Eurowings is going to operate 12x weekly summer 2024, then Condor with the twice weekly flight.

I don't think BA was operating YYC when AC was doing the 2x daily summer flights to LHR. Could be wrong though.

Ba flew pretty continuously (not necessarily daily and sometimes seasonally) from 2006 to 2020.

AC flew more than 1x daily often during that time (ie summer 15 they had 9x/week), then 11x weekly summer 16 (https://www.businesstraveller.com/ne...hrow-services/)

I think it's nearly a certainty that there were days with 3x flights.

Only once did my bag not arrive on my flight.

Landed in Halifax, missed the connection to Sydney (timing was juuuuust off).

Waiting in Halifax at the bar (no complaints there).

Boarded and landed in Sydney, waited for my bag. No bag.

Walk over to the Air Canada desk, and there's my bag that made the connection in Halifax where I did not.

Like Bigtime said... love airplanes harder.

Speaking of Condor, sad I missed out on a bucket list flight which would have been Whitehorse to Frankfurt on a 767. Didn't realize this was their last summer doing it

Yeah, I remember being at the Whitehorse airport years ago and seeing German written on most of the signs and wondering wtf was going on haha. I think it's awesome

I hope the route comes back when they're done re-paving the main runway, although I bet the 767 will be long gone by then. A330 just isn't as cool

Seems like the sort of thing that would be a shoo-in for the A321XLR, although it's maybe a few hundred miles too far. A330 is a lot of seats.

It's wild. We rented from Frasierway RV up there, and most of their clients are German, half the staff was too. Germans are strangely obsessed with our first nations culture, so being up north is pretty fascinating to them.

All these additions to Europe still don't resolve one of the big issues that losing FRA on Air Canada presents and that is connectivity. Europe has become overrun with LCC's which makes connecting a huge nuisance at best and impossible at worst if you are coming from North America for example. Losing a mainline flight and their partners airlines on the other end to connect to is a big blow if you are travelling anywhere in Europe past the main port of entry. My son is going to university in Europe and I'm trying to find a flight back after he comes home from Christmas. Frankfurt (AC) and Amsterdam (KLM) were literally the only two options for a single connection and now FRA is gone. We're stuck with either double connection (and may as well go via YYZ and/or YUL which I generally try to avoid if at all possible) or an overnight/hotel before carrying through to the final destination. Which comes with checking in again, security again etc.

We've been spoiled in YYC with flights but it really does hurt to lose a mainline option even if it is replaced with an LCC.

Yes, they operate the glorious A340-300 to us. I love that plane, and the fact that it only gets airborne thanks to the curvature of the earth...

Edit: I'll add that the completely unsuccessful A340-500 had some of the most perfect dimensions in an airliner.

I think I've only been on one of them once, and it was great. It's got the 2-4-2 seating the Dreamliner should have, before they stuffed it with 3-3-3.

I flew in the A343 a bunch of times when AC operated them, over the pond to FRA and when Lufthansa flew them into Calgary also. Love that 2-4-2 seating.

The best was/is watching them depart YYC on a super hot day in the summer, they ate up so much of the runway.

Last night my arrival gate was one of those A01-A06 WestJet Encore gates. It has been a while since I got to walk through that sad little shed. I would've thought that with so much moving down to D and E, and C still seeing a lot of action, that there would be extra capacity in the proper A wing and B, and the temporary(?) A01-A06 gates would be redundant, or made to be a bit nicer.

Does anyone know what the deal is with those gates? I mean, I'm landing from Saskatoon and I don't expect a red carpet, but it feels pretty bush league down there.
