I haven't seen a single mayoral candidate sign on private property near where I live; the only signs I've seen in yards are a couple for Brent Mielki (Ward 6 alderman candidate). Public property on the other hand is pretty much saturated with signs - mostly alderman candidates again (with 10 running they're putting up a lot of signs) and Barb Higgins signs, with the other major mayoral contenders putting up a smaller number of larger signs.

In ward 11 along 14th and 90th is a complete gongshow though....I have no signs there and I think that there are dozens! I do wonder what the point is by now. I really have to strain to bother picking out individuals....so people who barely care probably won't notice one more in the pile.

I think almost every Ward 11/13 trustee candidate has placed a half dozen signs on Canyon Meadows Drive by now. The drive up from Macleod to Elbow Drive is cluttered.

How are being upset and not believing in something even close to the same?
Second - McIver hasn't won yet so aren't you jumping the gun a little?

I have been to multiple aldermanic & mayoral forums and I don't see many buttons and the crowds have been mostly against him.
I have talked to my friends and coworkers and nobody supports him. I have talked to my dad and he said that he doesn't know anybody that is supporting him as well.
So can someone please tell me where all his support is coming from?

When you go to mayoral forums, online or twitter, you get the citizens who are interested in politics and educated.
I suspect many of McIver's supporters are those who haven't done a whole lot of research but recognize his name as anti-council. He's done a good job of positioning himself as somebody who is going to slash spending.

Hey, it may be too late to apply for it, but is there a way to put in an absentee ballot for the Calgary civic election? My primary address is in Calgary, but I am going to university in London, ON, but would still like to vote. Does anyone know how or if I am able to?

When someone says that they are upset by the democratic process because Candidate A won your basically implying that democracy dosen't work because your candidate didn't win.
At the end of the day its one vote for one person so for example for me if Hawkesworth pulled out and won a stunning election victory, I would have to live with the will of the people.
Democratic processes aren't something that you can get upset about.

So I take it death isn't either? Because it happens and you have to live with it anyway?

Haha, only if you copy Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire by hand and mail me the results. No but seriously, is there a way?

Absoutely
You can get upset about your loved one or bitter rival not being around, but death just happens.

You should be able to get a mail in ballot. The city website says you can request one until 4:30 p.m., Election Day, October 18, 2010.
Here is the website with more info:

Is it just me or am I misreading the web site, but you can request a ballout up until voting day, but it's got to be returned by 4:00pm on Voting day?... I would love to find a postal service that allows for that sort of turnaround.

I haven't yet. I'm thinking that it gets pointless and that meeting people still makes the most sense!
That being said I will put some on the public property like everyone else. I think that it would hurt me too much not to!

Without CP, I wouldn't know about you running in my ward! Every day on my drive home, I see all the other candidates signs though. I might be different than most drivers but I read signs on the road, so these would affect my decision if I didn't know to vote for you already, and I haven't recieved any flyers or anything to help me get any traction on a candidate otherwise. To me school trustee is a wash since it doesn't affect me at all, so like many people going by name recognition is going to be key in that race.

I don't get it. If McIver wins by being legally and properly elected, you're going to lose faith in democracy? It's not like elections in Calgary are rigged. What's there to lose faith in? Maybe society, if you're that anti-McIver.
