yeah but with less games you can have multiple seasons, so it's not like it's over after you've played 20.

well imo we posted the amount of games early on, and people committed. i think we should play through this season and see where we are at, and perhaps on next season we can adjust schedule. this way we can really see whos dedicated.
also what may be interesting is a "Reverse draft order"(stanley cup champ choses last for team etc) standing wise for ongoing seasons.

Isn't that kind of backwards though? Start small then build up seems to make more sense to me. I don't have any problems with a long schedule, but I think we'll either lose half the league(in which case we're only playing 30 games that count) or we'll never finish.

That's why I said wait a bit. Wait until it's an issue. Maybe we have a good group of guys who will play it out.
Better yet, reward the non-playoff teams for competing after they are eliminated by giving the best non-playoff team first pick all the ay down to the last place team. Then the playoff teams pick next. That way it's a playoff like competition for the non-playoff teams to grab a Pittsburgh or Detroit in the next season.

Speaking of playoffs, how does qualification work? Top 16? Are we playing 7 game series?

Yeah. Playoffs are a best of 7. It didn't give me an option of how many playoff teams, so I am going to assume HALF the teams make it.

At the end of the day it's silentsim's league so it's his call, but I just can't see this working.
Just as an example

So at most KIK will play something like 5 games a week. Even if we assume he's going to be the least active player(he won't be) we're talking about 12 weeks to complete a season. That's not taking into account people being away (I can guarantee I'm not bringing my PS3 to Hawaii for 2 weeks in december), as well as scheduling conflicts that will come up for certain match-ups.
silentsim, with 40 games played are you going to have the patience to spread out your remaining 20 games over 3+ months?

It would be really cool if EA gave the league setup some had some more options. It would be nice to have some pools and then a ladder to get a champion, rather than one big league. Sure - you wouldn't get to play everyone necessarily, but even in an 8-team pool, you'd get enough variety and it would allow for some quick seasons.
Not really the NHL format, but might make the online game a little more interesting and manageable. I think that FIFA has this functionality, but I could be wrong as I haven't played it enough.

I'm in for a game, after the CGY/MTL game.
koop: I'm guessing we're keeping it the way it is. If you wanna start another league, I'm in for that too. I may have some friends that would be interested in a shorter league. I'm gonna play in both.

I'm not trying to be an ass about this, I just don't want to play a bunch of games only to have the league not make it to the playoffs. With the current set-up it will take over 3 months to finish a season, and I can't see that working.
Again, this is silentsim's league so it's his call, but it would be nice to hear what the final decision on this is.
