Probably not but a big investment in R&D can result in significant improvements in terms of environmental impact (reduce fuel usage, reduce emissions, etc.)

In other HSR news, a company/business man out of Vancouver wants to put HSR between Calgary and Banff. To me, this has some merit especially for tourist travel. It is claimed that a trip from the airport to Banff could take ~26 minutes at up to 400km/h. I would actually consider using HSR from Calgary to Banff when going out for a weekend of partying (Christmas parties, weddings, whatever) or when going snowboarding.

As long as it's 100% private money I have no problem with these high speed rails. Just leave our tax money out of these highly probable money losers.

Or could they do like the Chunnel trains and have some vehicle cars, so you have your vehicle upon arrival.
The Chunnel trains don't have a free highway next to their tracks.

Screw high speed trains...we should take our pipeline smarts and prototype Elon Musk's hyper loop thingamajig

And high speed rail between Edmonton and Calgary is stupid...

When was the last regular speed passenger train running a profit between the two cities?

To me a high speed line to Banff makes a lot more sense than to Edmonton.
