Apparently the colour guy has been "removed from the broadcast team" for future Hurricanes games too.

Ouch. I know he was a homer, but damn!

Anyway, Hitmen are kicking ass and taking names again, currently leading 6-1 over Red Deer.

Edit: 6-2 now as Riley Neugent-Hopkins, who was great at the Macs, gets his first WHL goal. Rather surprised he's even allowed to play, given he is just 15. I would have figured the Dub's 5 game rule would have fallen by the wayside when Hockey Canada set the new age restrictions. Kid's got talent, but he needs to pick a last name... Hyphenated last names are lame.

Just to be clear that is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins you are talking about right?

A sluggish start for the Hitmen tonight but once that 2nd period started they really took over the game. The Rebels are a bad hockey team and even though I enjoy going to watch their games as a night out, its like watching a game at a library because it is so quiet in Centrium. I must say I like Kris Foucault, scored a couple of goals tonight and seemed to be all around the puck. Should be a good game on Sunday as the Pats are in town to face the Hitmen.

15 year old's can play 5 games in the dub. Hopkins has played 3 so far and has a goal and 2 assists to his credit. He's going to be some player in this league. 'Bout time we had something to get excited about as it's been a crap couple of years in Red Deer.

It drives me nuts. My English soccer background means that I like a crowd noisy and into it. I've tried at the Centrium and can sometimes get a few chants going but it's like pulling teeth. Most fans just want to sit on their hands. Of course we really don't have much to cheer about right now. You feel like celebrating after a shot on goal sometimes!

Yeah, I was aware of the 5 game rule for 15 year olds, but since HockeyCanada made changes to age eligibility, I would have figured that would have been gone. Good deal for Hopkins though, especially since he's already showing he's a player.

As far as noise level in Red Deer goes, it is hard to fathom after some of the great Hitmen-Rebels games of the past. I've been there plenty of times when they stuffed 7500 people into a 5500 seat rink and it was a mad house. You're still way louder than Lethbridge fans typically have been though.

Hitmen take care of the Pats this afternoon, outshooting them 51 to 18, and converting a franchise record 6 of 12 powerplay chances in a 7-4 win.

That Hitmen blueline sure gets involved with the offensive attack. They have the 2 big bombers in Postma and Stone, and now Seabrook has 10 goals. Today, Seabrook and Stone scored twice each while Postma scored once. The Hitmen have now scored 21 goals in their past 3 games, 7 goals in each game.

Jones played probably his worst game of the year, otherwise that is a 7-1 or 7-2 game. Great effort by the Hitmen.

It sure was the Zalaski and Agar show though. Officiating was a joke today, and ruined any hope for any kind of flow. And you know Regina wanted nothing to do with it, because even with our penalty kill being rather mediocre lately, a special teams war with the Hitmen is a death sentence.

WHL.ca has him listed as 1st star, is that correct?

I was wondering how a guy who made 14 saves on 18 shots was the 1st star of the game.

No. The 3 stars were Michael Stone, Keith Seabrook, and Jesse Dudas.

In other news, Vancouver has already clinched a playoff spot, a benefit of playing in the same conference as Portland. Calgary, meanwhile, has guaranteed they will finish ahead of Red Deer.

Heh, it's no different than the Flames guaranteeing they finish ahead of the Oilers on January 25.

Hitmen blue liner Keith Seabrook was named WHL player of the week. He had 3 goals and 5 assists in 3 games this past week. Easily the most improved player on the Hitmen roster.

As a result of last night's games, the Hitmen have now officially clinched a playoff spot.

With 20 games remaining, the magic number for the division is 7.5 and for the conference is 15.5.

And, Vancouver has finally tied us in points, formally taking top spot in the league away.

Metsola stole a point for Lethbridge, as Calgary rifled 49 shots, but couldn't steal the win. 3-2 Hitmen in OT. That would be 5 wins in 5 games against the Canes.

In other news, the Medicine Hat got Oilered, losing 10-1 in Kelowna.

The Rockets/Tigers game was on Shaw, what an azz-kicking.

What the hell got into the Blades lately? I didn't even notice that they are now on a 10 game winning streak.

And, magic number for the division is 5.5, and converence is 14.5.
