A few thoughts
this was the first time in a long time that the Pats have been outcoached, they knew that the Giants were going to crash with their ends and depend on pressure all night, and they didn't game plan for it. Would have it been so tough for them to run out of a Strong side formation and keep the backs in the backfield or add an extra tight end. They didn't adjust and they died.
I wasn't cheering for either team, but I was hoping for a Pats win so that Mercury Morris and those other Dolphin asses would shut up about their season.
18-1 means nothing, its an impressive season but not special.
Randy Moss, can the guy get any lazier, or more frightened about challenging the middle of the field.
Welker was the real MVP in that game. Eli didn't do Jack until the fourth quarter, and while its impressive Welker in a losing cause was amazing.
Look for major changes to the Pats as they get devoured by the Cap Monster.

Hahaha, yes. I could totally imagine what he meant, though. Can you see Eli giving an impassioned speech in the dressing room?

Can anyone tell me why the Pats went for the 4th and 12 in the 3rd quarter? instead of the FG, that still has me scratching my head. It was in their kickers range too.

He's not really that kind've guy and I think we saw that, he's almost like a Tony Dungy, he's going to be relaxed and keep his cool no matter what the situation.

They weren't convinced that their kicker could hit a field goal of over 45 yards. I would have tried the punt to pin them deep.
But thats why I coach highschool ball, I'm not smart enough to coach in the pro's.

yeah, strange play. they have gone on fourth and long earlier in the season. guess it was a field position thing. but still, didn't seem right.

Yeah, but Tiki was specifically addressing Eli's apparent attempt to make dressing room speeches.

Means nothing? Bull. I take great satisfaction in what NE did. Nothing to be ashamed of. A very special season, that will be remembered by not only Pat fans.
Was the Flames run in 2004 "not special"?

i don't like the pats, but i must agree. undefeated in the regular season, very impressive, and nearly got it done. one of the few occasions where i'll actually remember the superbowl losers as well.

What a game though. Earlier on ESPN Erik Eslias (sp?) was talking about if the Giants were going to win this one - they would need "a play" - one of those moments that would go down in history as one of the top Super Bowl moments of all time.
That play by Eli definitely fits that description. Unreal.
|
yep. i was rooting for the Patriots for the perfect season, but NY has been growing on me with the underdog story and after that insane play, i wanted them to take it. we'll be seeing that play in the highlight reels for the eternity of the NFL

Not comparable.
The Flames will be remembered as an underdog that almost won.
The Pats will find their way onto "greatest choke" lists, whether that is merited or not.

You almost wish the MVP could go to the defensive coordinator for the Giants. He did an unreal job, and for all the adjustments the Pats made, the Giants defence still came out on top.
What was unreal was that catch by Tyree to keep the drive alive. Catching it against his helmet and holding it all the way to the ground was amazing.

No question NE did so many amazing things this season on a team record and personal records but if you don't win the big game then that is nowhere near as special IMO. 18-1 is an amazing record but Bruschi said it best "18-1 means jack when the 1 you lose is your last game. Nobody remembers 2nd place."
Patriots should be proud of going 18-0 but they can't be mentioned in the greatest teams ever since they aren't the champions. If they had gone 18-1 and lost a regular season game then they could be.

what i love the most is that i got into an argument with a Pats fan over the last game of the season, where NY played their starters and nearly beat New England. i said playing a meaningless game (standings wise) like that, full out against the best team in the league and coming within inches would give them a huge confidence boost going into the playoffs. he insisted that NY were idiots for playing their starters due to injury risk and wouldn't listen at all to the whole emotional boost thing
and now what do we see in EVERY Giants post game interview? every player is saying how big of a boost that game was to their psyche and it carried them all the way to the superbowl. just perfect
