I would have dropped Stone and brought Sam.

Horvat can play wing (and is also phenomenal at faceoffs). With their centre depth I wonder if they think he's better at wing than Bennett.

I just dont get how you dont take Bennett. Yeah he is mid during regular season, but all the hockey world should know by now the dude elevates his game come playoffs or this case short tourney olympics.

Bennett to me is bonkers. Absolutely bonkers. Especially with some of the other players selected. I'm not even really much of a Bennett fan, but he almost single handedly turned around that game in the 4 Nations Cup. Plus his playoff performances? Come on.
Going with much of the same defense just feels like a safety/comfort thing.
Im fine with the Doughty pick. In a one game scenario you want veterans to make the smart play Doughty isn't being selected to go on an end to end rush. He's being selected to make the smart play when they're stuck in their own end for 2 minutes in the 3rd period of a tie game.
Horvat is kinda boring.
Wilson is intriguing. As long as he doesn't try to murder anyone.

Cirelli is good defensively and was pretty good at 4 Nations too - so don't mind him there. I don't mind giving the coach some guys he really trusts.
Still don't get Horvat (who has never really won anything) over Bennett.
If Horvat was off this roster and Bennett was on this roster would anybody question it...who is clamoring for Bo Horvat to be on this roster.

Stone is actually having a pretty good year (30 pts in 21 gp) and, since it's not the larger ice surface, but actually a smaller one, his lack of speed won't be as much of a factor.

I’m sure they view anything they lose with Bennett they add back in Wilson.
Beyond the TB bias, there is likely an anti-Florida bias from Cooper as a result of rivalry, regardless of what he’d admit to.
Bennett’s regular season numbers have always been his downfall. He’s a big game player though, I would have had him on my team.

Coach wants to take his own player? Earned that right.
Canada’s success is going to be from goaltending and top 6 forwards. Bottom 6 forwards sure there could be a lot of guys interchangeable and thus up for debate.
There is a lot more games to be played in this tourney than the 4 Nations as well, many against inferior opponents. They don’t necessarily need pedal to the metal Sam vs Germany, as opposed to the short tournament that was the 4 Nations.
Wilson with the current scoring touch wins over Bennett. If you’re looking for the circus aspect potentially in the game or games vs the USA, Wilson can provide that too.
And again, if McKinnon and McDavid can’t get you past teams then Canada has more trouble than the 11th and 12 forward selection.

Meh he's having a shooting percentage heater season, same as when he was traded in 22-23.
Shot 21.7% before the trade that season, then 8.14% post trade.
Same thing now 13.3% in 23-24, 11.5% in 24-25, and now 17.5% this year.
Can't count on his shooting percentage bender carrying over to the olympics, he pretty much largely is was he always is - a pretty good 2nd line center.
Even with that considered Bennett only has 2 fewer 5v5 goals than Horvat this year, and 4 more 5v5 points...neither of these guys is getting a sniff of the PP on this roster so PP production is irrelevant.

There seems to be a concern to figure out the linemates for the big baby. You would think the greatest player in the history of the world should be able to play with anyone. Whatever. Major omission to me is Benny. Happy for Suzuki. Relative of one of our longtime friends.

He's pretty strong defensively and has some leadership abilities. He's also a psycho, so there's that red flag.
You could argue Scheifele is a better player, but he's never really performed in big games, and isn't someone I would look to for leadership.

Agreed, but Hockey Canada seems to have this thing about not naming any young players to the Olympic roster unless they are demonstrably elite in their young age (i.e. Celebrini). Hell, they even left Crosby off the 06 roster though it was his rookie season, to be somewhat fair.
Schaeffer and Bedard were always going to be longshots. Celebrini probably would've been as well if it weren't for him being 3rd in league scoring this year.
