Scotia Corral would at least suggest it might be in Calgary

But Scotia Place could be in any town in Canada (and probably is)

It's a terrible name. But it'll just be called "The Dome" colloquially.

All arena names are. No one wants to drop millions of dollars on naming rights only to have no one ever use their name when talking about the building.

Also, TIL Scotia Centre downtown is now called Stephen Avenue Place: https://stephenavenueplace.com/

It could always be worse folks. Scotia Place could be the entire district and the arena will have another name like "The Telus Auditorium, at Scotia Place" or something long winded.

It’s a fine name for a minor league’s venue. Capitalism sanitizing everything to eliminate any inspiration for future generations is on point.

If you google arena names in Canada, it was going to be Centre, Place, or Arena.

Real creative names.

Oh well.

It's the place where the people are.

Since the current building is Scotiabank Saddledome, the new arena will be a new Scotia Place... a Nova Scotia if you will.

Probably not done with naming either, it will be Scotia Place in the Telus Entertainment district.
Practice rink will probably get a name too, in which they certainly should use Corral as part of that.

Again, 'Scotia' or 'Scotiabank' was a given, and it is what it is.

My contention is with 'Place', which is 100% generic, and provides no insight or connection to the city. After years, I still have no idea which is which, between Rogers Arena, Rogers Place, and Rogers Centre. None.

Scotia Corral says Calgary. Scotia Place says 'a building somewhere in Canada, but we can't remember where - and frankly, no one cares'

place

/plās/

Old English plaece, from Latin platea ‘open space’, from Greek plateia (hodos) ‘broad (way)’; subsequently reinforced by Old French place.

scotia

/ˈskōSHə/

Mid 16th century: via Latin from Greek skotos or skotia, from skotos ‘darkness’, with reference to the shadow produced.

The Big Dark Place

Scotia Place is so damn boring. I bet locals will just end up calling it the 'Dome anyways.

Sure, but I don't think Scotiabank would agree to it. Last thing they probably want is people just calling it "The Corral", and dropping Scotia out of it.

The Flames' marketing department and banks in general are not exactly known for being creative. This is just further proof.
