That said, the Flames are down to 43SPCs. Only Carolina has less with 41SPCs. I guess we can take up to 7 more players than we send out at the TDL, but again I don't see a huge difference between 43, and 45.
Yeah, the number of SPCs is a non-factor. The Flames already had space, so adding a couple more doesn't really move the needle much. It's not too often that contract room holds up deals. You just add a random tweener or AHL player to the deal if you need to.

Thanks. I think he had an injury earlier this year, but couldn’t remember other times he was out.

Don't know about you, but I could use a Valimaki over an Oesterle right about now.

Ruzicka had a shoulder injury Oct 24 – Nov 6. I believe he missed 4 games because of it.

Sure. But if we list all the players the Flames have put on waivers in the last 5 years, would your regret list get any longer?

There would have been just as much outrage had Ruzicka been traded for a 5th or 6th as there is now.

Future considerations is nothing. If the Flames could have got a low round pick for him then I am sure there would have been a trade.

Has had a serious injury this season, but despite this is 18:39 in average ice time, which would make him #5, was their #4 last season. Is fourth among defencemen possession-wise. Is better than Oesterle in almost every metric.

On the bright side, Nick DeSimone was a career minor leaguer who signed as a free agent, the Flames gave him a shot, and he turned into an NHL player. I don't know how long it lasts, but he is a serviceable depth player. I think it generally looks good on an organization when stuff like that happens.

Is Valimaki better than Oesterle? No question. Would he move the needle for the Flames this year? Probably not.

Got paid twice Oesterle's salary last year (though had to settle for a pay cut this year).

Flames don't miss him at $1M and sure didn't at $1.55M.

This has essentially zero impact whatsoever on the team. I dont get the negative reactions at all.

4th line forward with size that he doesn't use and is inconsistent at best.

A bottom pairing d-man that is in and out of the lineup.

Would way rather have Pelletier and Kylington in the lineup.

Yeah, Valimaki was a great waiver claim as far as waiver claims go but he still isn't a top 4 on a good team. Good for him if he does but I won't sweat it even if he does.

Ruzicka is top 6 or bust unless he commits to really developing his defensive game and he hasn't so far and he didn't have the drive to keep up in top 6 on the Flames. Getting on waivers might be the push he needs. We will find out.

I get why some people are mad about Ruzicka because he did show flashes of being a top 6 guy and some people want to hold on to every guy that shows flashes. I am guessing he will be the next Jankowski/Colborne etc

Agreed. It seems that most people on the internet these days are just looking for things to be outraged about. It's so tiring

Wasn't in the past five years, but Paul Byron was a pretty big whoops. And that was under the Treliving/Conroy regime.

Zero chance NJ claims Oesterle.
