For Juan Soto (a 25 year old stud), I’d allow the Padres could take literally any player on the farm. It doesn’t take that long to rebuild the farm team but Soto could put the team over the top.

It’s been 30 years since we’ve won a World Series and our current window is starting to close. You don’t win awards for a good farm system. The best minor league arms can turn to noodles and the best bats can flame out.

If the Padres are open to the move, the Jays would be absolutely stupid to protect their minor league team at the expense of picking up a monster player.

From what I hear, he is a below average fielder but I’m sure that he can improve with good coaching and lots of reps. Ideally, I think the Jays would like him to have another year at triple A and maybe be an early call up candidate.

Definitely fake. As of last night the account had 200 followers and said the same thing about other players.

I 100% agree. I just think it's unlikely the Jays have the prospects to make the best offer for him.

Report: Shohei Ohtani Meeting With Blue Jays in Toronto This Weekend

It's not a headline any Toronto Blue Jays fans thought they'd be reading, but a source close to the team tells Baseball Rumors that superstar free agent Shohei Ohtani is in The Six this weekend to meet with Blue Jays brass.
And helping matters out, apparently, is current Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, the Japanese lefthander who's coming off a strong season in Toronto. Kikuchi faced off against Ohtani a number of times between 2013 and 2017, when both were top pitchers in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan.

Ohtani became a free agent this winter after five seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, and is looking for a new home. He underwent elbow surgery recently and won't be able to pitch in 2024, though hopes to resume doing so in 2025 and beyond.

But he will be able to swing the bat as a DH next season, and the Jays are certainly looking for an offensive boost after a mediocre season for the team at the plate. Ohtani had his best major league season with the bat in 2023, blasting 44 home runs, with 95 RBIs, and a .304 average. His 1.066 OPS, .412 on-base, .654 slugging and OPS+ of 184 were all TOPS in the majors.

Although his season on the mound was cut short by the elbow problem, he's still the leading candidate to grab his second AL MVP award when the winners are announced this month.

It's expected to cost about $500M on a long-term deal to win the services of the 29-year-old two-way superstar; whether the Blue Jays are willing to meet that price, and are able to beat out more attractive bidders for his services, like the LA Dodgers, remains to be seen.

Ohtani is apparently spending the entire weekend in Toronto.

Ohtani will have year 1 and 2 opt outs

The contact value is basically irrelevant

The Jays on a 1 year 40 million (essentially) contract to play DH and build his global brand makes a lot of sense to both sides

I welcome the return of a murderers row of hitters.

According to Ben, when I originally posted the first tweet it wasn't made by a credible source. That may have been ground zero for the rumour. If he was in Toronto you would be certain he'd be photographed at a restaurant or something. So at this point I'd say it is definitely fake.

What are the responsibilities of a bench coach anyway? I don't see the downside. Experience without being a dinosaur, is always good. If Schneider falters you can be assured they'll fill it internally.

As far as I can tell Mattingly is still Bench Coach. So what exactly is an associate coach? More checks and balances for Schneider I guess.

Mattingly is rumored as a Brewers manager candidate so maybe Hale replaces him if Mattingly leaves?

More options for replacement. Hale managed the Guardians with Francona gone. Mattingly I think would still get the tap.

Haha I laughed when I saw that. Taking a team many thought to be legit contenders, to barely squeaking into the playoffs, and then getting swept by a team that hadn't won a playoff game in 18 years. Real manager of the year stuff there.

Only possible explanation is that someone from Minnesota voted to thank Schneider for pulling Berrios.
