mmmm disagree, it permeates every thread nowadays and is tiresome. You have to scroll ten posts to get to something worth reading.

More than double.

Well. Pretty sure you're looking at the wrong van Riemsdyk. JVR has 110 points over the last three seasons.
Think you're probably looking at his brother, who's a defenseman with the Caps.

Nice to have Backlund as a 1000 game Flame but it was not a home town discount.

wow.
It's interesting how much better our guy has held up. I would say his last few years were some of his best.

I noticed the clauses this morning. Sorry if someone stated this already. But the second year has a M-NTC with a 15-team NT list that begins January 1, 2026. So, it’s almost like Backlund allowed the Flames to have the chance to trade him at the deadline in his last year. That’s great for the team and potentially great for Backlund if the Flames are not a contender. I just love this contract.

Yeah he must not be looking at JVR. Still, Backlund is a better player today IMO but I guess JVR did sign a pretty cheap deal. He is also evidence of how quickly things can decline.
Backlund signed a fair deal IMO and I don’t really see it as a huge discount since it doesn’t kick in until next year. I think people are underrating the value to an older player who signs an extension a year early. Hard to be sure of the type of player he will be two years from now. It’s a win/win in this case.

Yeah that’s fantastic. What’s great contract. Conroy nailed this one.

On the ice, Backlund is the least capable captain in the league. Was thinking this about a week ago and Barn Burner really went into this late last week as well. He is great in the community and a leader in the room (apparently) but does not cannot do anything during the game, on the ice to turn the tide. Not a scorer, not a fighter, not a hitter, does not mix it up, no blazing speed one man breakout. Most vanilla captain in franchise history and has to be one of the least exciting captains in the league.

I said it in the PGT. Zero goals so far and didn't even face the media after the last drubbing.

There's a reason he wasn't captain after Gio left, and I'm off the belief that it should be your most talented/impactful player that should be your captain. But this team lacks having a player like that on this roster, which why the Flames are in the situation they are in.
So it's more of a token gesture since it's transitional. He's gonna be the one with the C during a period where the Flames are gonna be one of the worst teams in the league.
Captain Tank.

Yup, didn’t like it when it was announced. Hate it even more now. Pretty embarrassing state of affairs here right now. Who would’ve thought? Warm fuzzy feelings don’t win you hockey games. Never have, never will.

I dunno, I see him out there trying every night. That's one guy who isn't mailing in the effort. Is he a game changer? No, but he leads by example and does all the little things right.
On the list of players that I have a problem with on this team, Backlund is way, waaaaay down the list.

That's the role of a captain. Glad he faced them. It was very odd he didn't last game. Gio or Iggy always faced the media after duds

Steve Smith and Todd Simpson would like a word with you.
I have no issues with Backlund. None of this is his fault.

Yeah not our biggest problem. One of only four plus players on the team and his line is the only one you can remotely count on to at least play the opposition even.
Kadri -10
Huberdeau -9
Dube -7
Those three have been absolutely brutal.

Backlunds line has been the steadiest line this season, but tonight is not the night to go to bat for him. He had a bad game

Backlund works his butt off, and never cheats the game. He ain't the problem.
