I can't pinpoint on why I don't want Brunette, I just think there is someone out there that is more of a fit for Calgary. Nothing against him, I've no reason behind my gut feeling.

The Washington Capitals named Spencer Carbery as their new head coach on Tuesday.
Carbery, 41, will receive a four-year deal, a source told ESPN.
Carbery was one of the buzziest names on the coaching circuit, most recently serving as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs and running their power play. He now returns to the Capitals organization, where he came up through the ranks coaching for its ECHL and AHL affiliates.

LeBrun:
Predators will make the Brunette hire, 1st reported by @KevinWeekes below, official later today.
The Preds also interviewed Spencer Carbery.
Elsewhere:
_ The Flames reached out to Gerard Gallant to gauge his interest in potentially coaching in Calgary. Answer was yes. So Gallant will be part of the interview process as Flames speak with a number of candidates;
_ Not confirmed, but hearing that Peter Laviolette is meeting with Rangers again today

Sure they would. Murray Edwards isn't cheap and he makes more than Sutter's salary in a month in interest probably. I never understand when people try and say the Flames are too cheap, they spend to the cap every year and have paid their staff well.

All it is is interviews for Gallant. I'm not sold he's the way to go.

Murray Edwards is extremely cheap. The reason his businesses have done so well, CNRL in particular, is because they drove costs as low as possible, including by squeezing their staff on salary negotiations.

I hope you are right. I don't see the right fit there. From what we here about his stubbornness and that he doesn't work well with others leads me to believe he has a snowballs chance in hell.

Murray Edwards is not cheap when it comes to the Flames. Quite the opposite.

Not surprised they are interviewing Gallant, but after Conroy’s talk of giving young players a chance and Gallant’s handling of Kakko and Lafrienere in NY I don’t see them going in that direction.

So you think he would pay Sutter 4 million over the next two years and pay Gallant say 3 million over the next three?
I doubt it when he could pay a rookie coach 1 million.
I hope I'm wrong.

Well, let's hope in the interview process that Conroy can get out of Gallant the reason(s) why he's been let go after only a couple of seasons in each NHL club he's been with.
I think Gallant is a not only a good coach, but a great one with fantastic results. But we are looking for a coach that can coach in Calgary for longer than 2 seasons. I hope Conroy emphasizes that in every interview. Calgary has had good coaching hires in the past (aside from GG and Ward). All of them have had shelf lives though. We really need one that understands the importance of a good mix of youth and veterans, as well as adapting to the modern-NHL. Is Gallant that guy? Perhaps. I don't like his resume with the continuous firiings though.

Player-wise, I would agree. But it seems that with coaches, the Flames scrape the bottom of the barrel more often than not. Gilbert? Hay? Gulutzan? Page? How many times have the Flames hired a coach who, upon leaving the team, ends up straight up leaving the NHL entirely?

Because they should. They are working minimum wage jobs. Why should they get paid more because they work at the Dome as opposed to say a movie theatre?

Which jobs are and aren’t supposed to be minimum wage? You do realize that many arena event staff employees across this country make more than minimum wage right?
