Ya Im aware...im just sayin it has never really worked here. Im not anti-Conroy at all....but i am wondering if a clean slate might not have been a better/new/different way forward.
I mean Fletcher is the guy to be measured against, and yes that was his 1st GM job.
It also took him 2 cities and 2 decades to get to the top....though his teams were always good once they got to Alberta.

Conroy’s earned this. Hard to argue there’s another candidate that knows the organization, the market, and the team better than Conroy. That’s no guarantee for success, or the ultimate success, but today/tomorrow should be considered a good day for the team.
Excited to see where they go from here.

This is the reason why I hope Conroy is the GM that finally ditches all of our goaltending coaches. They have a long history of failure over the past decade with many, many goalies.

Not like Conroy was Treliving's guy that followed him for organization to organization ala Dave Nonis and Brian Burke. Perhaps it's not a true clean slate but I'm comfortable calling it one as Conroy isn't beholding to Treliving style and way to do business.

I'm not a Nonis guy, but to a large degree I'm happy someone with some experience is brought in to assist Conroy. I'm sure mavricks like Bergevin would be underpinning Conroy, and at this point in his career I don't think Nonis will pull the same stunts. Should be a cohesive team going forward. If Conroy said his approach will be building through the draft, I'm happy. Bodes well for me as a fan.

Markstrom was second in Vezina voting last year. Vladar has proven himself to be a very capable backup, and maybe more. Wolf has won goaltender of the year every year since he’s been drafted.
Not too sure what your gripe is. Despite last year being a tough one, the organization is positioned very well in G.

One thing we can be sure of is that Conroy has a few synonyms for “the process” in his vocabulary.

He has connections to every single member of the organization the last decade+. On AND off the ice.
Clean slate?
Hope he becomes the greatest hire on franchise history, im a lifelong fan afterall, but i just feel like we are in for more of the same.
Also hope I am dead wrong.

Is this confirmed yet?
I hope it is...think he could be a super good resource for Conroy.

Like another other GM that would have come in I will take a wait and see approach. I like Conroy as a person obviously, he loves this organization and I hope he has a solid plan to right this ship.

Conroy probably has a really good read on things that are wrong and need to be fixed. When you bring in guys from the outside, they often need time to figure stuff out and you get things like buying out St.Louis to bring in Dwayne Hay.

I think the Canucks were a well coached team with lots of bad players. He did the best he could with what he had. One reason I would consider him is he was willing to play rookies and young players, and not just the top picks either. Perhaps he had no choice since there wasn't much else.
I think there are more than a few examples of coaches who didn't do great the first time around, but figure it out when they get another shot. I think Green could be one of them

Yep, a rebuild is not coming so as a fan of this team the best you can do is cheer on the latest patchwork attempt to get us into the playoffs. Sad but true.
Might get a couple rounds out of it and that's always fun in late May, so there's that.

Green was linked to the Flames before, so it wouldn’t be shocking if his name comes up again. I have no opinion on his ability, but he seems like a good guy.

Good for Conroy. Deserves it and has paid proper dues with a few coaches, Burke around, Treliving, King etc so he's seen it all behind the scenes as an exec.
Still wont forget the day that Treliving's predecessor, without the proper respect for a veteran or the team, sent Conroy down to the minors.
The team, especially Iginla, were beyond furious that he was treated like that. Ken King again(as he had to do when Greg Gilbert was going to send Vernon to the minors) has to smooth things over with the team and player, and gave Conroy his off ice role as opposed to the disgusting forced snap retirement move the GM tried to pull.

If anything, he's probably been harbouring his own ideas and preferred direction for years, while learning the ins and outs of being a GM. I'm as excited as one can possibly be while understanding that he will not have anything resembling full autonomy under Murray Edwards.
Edwards will continue to squash selling off and resetting, but I think Conroy can still do some exciting things within those confines.

Who knows, maybe Conroy has been around long enough to be the Edwards whisperer.
