It’s probably just a matter of time. But this team needs to be put out to pasture. There’s something wrong with it.

Definitely on board with changing up the goalie coaches. These two and Smith before them are all big goalies on their knees deep in the net leaving way too much net to shoot at. Vladar cost them 2 points last night

That something is goaltending. Plain and simple. That second goal can't go in when the points are on the line. Completely changes momentum.

It’s goaltending
But you can’t seriously look at the tying goal and say Hanifin is acceptable

This team would be lethal as is, if it could only be injected with some of that 2015 moxie or swagger that they had. Flames were an amazing 'come from behind' team that didn't quit and didn't get rattled. They just weren't a good team then, but they played with resiliency.
This year's zero come from behind wins is maddening, especially combined with allowing Vegas to come from behind. Yes, Vegas pushed, but instead of showing resolve, this team looked a bit rattled, especially after that first goal.
I hope this disappointing loss injects them with a bit of resolve rather than the yips.
Either way, the trade deadline is looming. I have no idea what direction this team is going to head, though I have my guesses.

This year any shot our goalies face is high quality!

Or that's not the case because actual counts say otherwise?

Every shot against is high danger against the Flames goalies this year. Every shot might go in, from anywhere.

Yeah Hanafin is definitely not consistent. Some games he looks good but a lot of the time he looks startled and confused.

I think Hanifin has had a great season, but he gets a good chunk of blame for that second goal last night.

Yeah I honestly feel a bit bad for the skaters at this point.
You start to play tight because any half chance could end up in the net, and because of that you end up giving up more chances.
Again last night they were doing a pretty good job of containing the Knights in the third period, then the Whitecloud goal goes in and all of a sudden you're on your heels.
It's tough to win in this league with .888 goaltending, unless you can overcome it with strong shooting. Which they can't.
Flames PDO (Shooting + Save) is now 32nd
32. Flames
31. Columbus
30. Anaheim
29. Vancouver
28. San Jose
Remarkable they are even in spitting distance of a playoff spot with that.

Yep. They were not allowing much at all in the third until the first shot of the period goes in. As a fanbase we feel deflated but I can't imagine being on the team.

For 45 minutes, they were the better team, by a wide margin.

Locke captured it perfectly in post 12
Dominant first, middling second (outshot 11-8), third period collapse (brutal effort to sit on the lead and outshot 9-1). OTL
I will repeat. Outshot 9 to ####ing 1
I agree they were the better team for 45 minutes, but real minutes. That’s the first period plus a bit of the intermission lol

Look at it in a vacuum and you'd say 3/4 points on back to back nights is great, but in reality, it's just another game that slips away due to boneheaded plays and a soft goal.
It's not must win territory yet, but it's getting pretty damn close if this team has any hope of salvaging this season.

Outside of the goaltending, the insistence on running four lines is killing this team. In a game we absolutely needed to win - Milan Lucic was 45 seconds away from leading this forward group in five on five ice time on a night his line was getting absolutely caved in (what else is new?). It's absolutely unacceptable roster management.
For comparison sake Jack Eichel played over 18 minutes of even strength icetime last night - Huberdeau? 12:40. Lindholm? 11:39. Pelletier and Toffoli whom are playing this teams best hockey finished dead last on the team.
The coach shows absolutely zero confidence in his best players yet the entire fanbase expects them to perform at their highest level.

I guess they were tired in the 3rd, but they played bad as a whole team.
They don't really win any puck battles, can't clear the puck, bad turnovers.
I would blame last 2 goals on Hanifin and Anderson pair. 2nd goal was 3 on 2 and both of them where standing nowhere and no Forwards came for help. 3rd goal must be easy clear but Hanifin caught with puck and got mess.
OT goal was on Backlund, dump dump decision.

This team routinely outshoots other teams 9-1 for stretches during games. Problem is we don’t often come out of that with a two goal advantage.

The only rationale I can see for the 4th line is that Sutter sees it as the ultimate checking line - and, to be fair, a LOT of the time they do that well..cause turnovers, pound the oppo in their own end etc. BUT they get trapped too. And far too often. And with slow foot speed to boot are too hard-pressed to escape a determined challenge.
Bizarre choices for sure.
