My problem, this year, is that his team is playing thoroughly uncreative hockey and he's leaning far too heavily on his veteran players who don't contribute.
I think Darryl Sutter would be under a lot more heat right now if his name was anything other than "Darryl Sutter" — on paper, this roster is way better than it's performing. I think there's a lot of questions to ask of the guy who makes the lineup and deployment decisions.

I don’t think it is. Look at this roster - it’s devoid of stars. This is maybe the “most” Calgary Flames roster we’ve had in some time. A Sutter as the coach, a “star” winger (meant as a slight to Huby, not Iggy), the need for the goalie to be perfect, and then a whole bunch of expensive depth. This is the very same sort of roster construction that we saw in the post-2004 Iginla era. It’s not a formula that works, yet we’re right back at it.
I’m in agreement that if Sutter wasn’t Sutter, then there’d be different treatment - but this season is set up to be entirely on Treliving’s shoulders. He’s the one without an extension. He’s the one who is going to get axed/not renewed if things don’t course correct.
