Same thing he did on McDavids goal in the playoffs. Was in position to check or shadow Draisatl and then just went up ice trying for the outlet pass that never came.
He went there to be closer to home. It's only a 90 min drive from Columbus to Jersey.
Trippy.com gives the driving time as 7 hours, 43 minutes, nonstop.

‘You see in Calgary, [Ryan] Huska is no joke. It’s good. He’s really set on a specific model defensively. If you can be reliable, you have the freedom to play offence. Now playing for Rand, who is a pretty similar style, I think earning his trust in the d-zone has been something I’ve been progressively trying to do.’

Johnny is only good defensively by controlling the puck. Put him off puck and he’s hopeless. He’s not going to check someone off the puck or strip a player. Sutter put him in a spot where they could just control the puck and have amazing defensive numbers despite not being good defensively. Then he goes to a system without that structure or Lindholm there to back him up and yeah his warts show a bit more now. Anyway I think Tkachuk can do well and is doing mostly fine. I don’t know if that team will ever do much because they’ve traded so many futures. But Johnny I can confidently say is doomed to years of obscure 90 point seasons. Maybe he’s the new Marcel Dionne.
Not if you talk to people who live in Airdrie. It's only a 15 min drive and 45 min walk to downtown. lol
They see CrossIron Mills and think they've already arrived.

A lot of dumping on former players lately.
I honestly think that play was about staying with his man (the point man), and with that Draisaitl just found a seam between defenders (which is all of their fault, not just one player)
