I wonder if the Harfoots are going to settle in that place where their carts got burned. They definitely had apples in the Shire in lotr. It would be kind of an interesting origin story for the hobbits and the Shire if that incident was how they came to be. Their leader also called Nori's dad 'Brandyfoot', which could suggest maybe Nori's family are the ancestors of the Brandybuck hobbits.

I thought of that at first but the Amazon map shows that they're in the eastern part of Middle Earth, while the Shire is in Eriador in the NW.

Ya, the Harfoots are basically where the Dead Marshes are. But they could end up wandering to the Shire to settle.

Sorry to disappoint you, but if an elf gives a dude her sword, he's probably not going to get killed off anytime soon.

Is this an official resource? It's really well done, but it still indicates "coordinates not confirmed" for some places. Anyways, I didn't realize the Shire is so far north either. The Shire seems so close to where the frozen wasteland where Galadriel was hunting Sauron.

From reading a bit more about the hobbits I guess they had three different kinds if ancestors, of which the Harfoots are one. Sam Gamgee was a descendant of the Harfoots, but Frodo and Bilbo were supposed to be descendants of one of the other groups, as was Golum.

Yeah, wasn't sure about the spoiler tags, but I know LotR is near and dear to some people so I don't want to take anything away from them.

VERY late to the game but I just watched the first episode and I really enjoyed it! The LotR are my favourite movies and I thought that this show, at least the first episode, captured a lot of what I love about the world.

I know there's been a huge divide between fans about the series but taking it for being a good fantasy TV show, and putting aside some of the lore things that people might argue about, I'd say it's a success (again...first episode only).

It does prompt me to give Wheel of Time a shot.

This is exactly what I thought too. I’m up to date on both shows now. Different shows and I like them both. Others who know the source material may disagree but I don’t have that knowledge and I didn’t feel left behind.

Sorry, you're right that it's not official and is a fan-site that added their annotations to the Amazon map.

The genesis of Mordor and the name reveal at the end was brilliantly done. Been enjoying the almost Hobbits story as well, some real fun and interesting characters.

they're fun but there isn't much to the characters, i wouldn't call them necessarily interesting . pretty black and white as to who's good or bad and you wont expect them to deviate from that much if at all . i like some characters that are shades of grey as it makes them interesting and relatable and gives them room for progression but in a LOTR show you won't find too much of that , and that's fine as these classic good vs evil stories can be good too

The show has already introduced more shades of grey than the movies had. In the movies there is basically only Smeagol/Golum that is a shade of grey. There is no empathy for any of the other characters on Sauron's side. In the show they've complicated Galadriel as having both good and evil in her, and they've humanized the orcs by making them creatures who have also suffered under Sauron and who are looking for a home of their own to be free from suffering.

It's still pretty black and white, but much less than the movies were.

only seeing that with adar . the behavior of the orcs has gone pretty well against how adar describes them though . again nothing necessarily wrong with clear defined good and bad characters in a fantasy story like this

i dare them to write a bad hobbit though, and I don't mean the hooligan kind like merry and pippin

Excellent finale. I'll avoid discussing it for a day or two cause my sense is most people watch it on Friday (and I'm tired)

However, at about the 13.5 minute mark a 2-minute commercial popped up for me. I thought maybe I hit the remote or some kind of glitch, so I rewinded it a bit and it happened again at the exact same spot, only I had the option to hit 'back' on my remote skip it. Boo.
