Was chatting with my boss at work (based in Toronto) he was playing in a golf tournament with someone who knows Kadri/Kadri’s agent and he said that it is definitely coming down to the Flames and Islanders on the Kadri front. Not something we haven’t heard before but this person talking to my boss got the feeling he was leaning towards Calgary.
If Lucic is moved I highly suspect Kadri will be signed to the Flames. Nothing on contract or anything but he told me this is what he heard yesterday and I have no reason not to believe him.
Again just passing on what I heard could be BS for sure. Don’t roast me for it but with these Lucic rumors picking up steam it seems quite a bit more plausible.

oooooooohhhhh. I swear you also broke something around the Iginla trade back a few years ago. Not holding you to anything but I love them juicy dramaaaaa.

The Iginla trade was just relaying something that was said on Edmonton radio about he and Dion getting into a legit fight which I am not sure if it happened but they claimed it did on the radio.
This situation happened to be my boss playing with a close friend of Kadri’s agent and he gave him that detail about Calgary being heavily in the mix.
I trust my boss wouldn’t lie to me as there is no point. Once I heard the Lucic rumor yesterday I put the two together and it made me believe it could all be real.
Let’s stay tuned to find out but I am not holding my breath. Definitely some info I wanted to share with this group though

To add to the gossip mill,
Around that time, or shortly afterwards, a friend of mine was on a flight with a cousin of Langkow. He said the fight in the room, and Jarome’s mysterious black eye, was a fight between Langkow and Iginla. Langkow and Dion were tight and it was over some dispute that Dion was involved with. But when it came to the fight, it was Langkow and Iginla.

Boston would need salary retention but the rumor had been that Anaheim might be willing to take him with no salary retention.
For a team nowhere close to the cap the cap hit is almost irrelevant and the actual salary is nothing at $1M.
So really if Boston is the preferred destination and they really want him then it might come down to Boston finding a team to retain salary as a broker.

But at $3.75M he's not all that overpaid and the sweetener would be much smaller or non existent depending on how teams value his leadership and uber-toughness.
If the Bruins want him it wouldn't surprise me if the Flames don't have to do much more than retain.

Lucic is an absolute albatross at $3.75 million.
He had 1 goal in his last 57 games including playoffs last year.
The only intangibles he has left are big and scary. Chara also had those and he signed for under a million last season.
The only realistic destination for Lucic to me is Anaheim because he might actually want to play there, and they have oodles of cap space.

Where is this Anaheim rumour? Also note Lucic has 100% control over who may get him

The Anaheim rumor was earlier this offseason around the draft.
Depends on who is on his list. He has a list of 10 teams he has to submit that he can be traded to, but I’m sure the Flames would try to work with him to find a place where he wants to go based on how they respect their players generally.

His offseason home is in LA so Anaheim might be a team he's willing to go to.

Whatever happens hopefully it happens soon, there is no chance we go into the season with the forward group as is, it simply isn’t good enough.

Leadership, you forgot leadership. The fact that he called Huberdeau after he got traded speaks to how important he is in that room. 1 year at 3.75 or 5.25 for that matter isn’t bad at all.
There are definitely albatross contracts in this league, his isn’t one of them.

Its a bad contract I wouldn't trade Lucic for Nurse though
Hilarious the Oilers will be paying Neal for 2 years after Lucic is off the Flames books

I do think Boston would trade for a retained Lucic if they could dump Folgino but Folgino is 100% done by everything I read. Boston fans seemed legit excited about the prospect of Lucic coming back.
The cap situation makes it seem near impossible and if I am the Flames I am not retaining on Lucic to take back Folgino or even Smith.
I am super intrigued to see what moves the Flames are able to pull off before the season because I agree with those who think another move or two up front is on the horizon

I was really hoping he would go to Coyotes to help them reach the floor. To a team like that I think he would have significant positive value.
I'll miss him though. These kind of players always grow on me. I don't think the average fan appreciates how hard it is to be the cop on the ice, even with a significant physical advantage.

Weird statement IMO, he was great last year for the first half and was still effective physically and on the forecheck in the playoffs.

Trying to think how a deal would go down and how compensation would work.
Can see the chances of a third team being involved pretty high to reduce the cap hit to bruins. So if we retain half and a 3rd team retains half, do we compensate the third team for brokering the deal or is that solely on Boston? Cap hit to Boston could be as low as 1.3m if there is max double retention. Cap relief is the biggest asset coming back to us but what, if anything, do we send to a third team for helping make this happen?
