If I'm the Oilers that was a dagger to the heart.
Their only hope was to drag the Flames into playing River Hockey. They succeeded in doing that, but lost at their own game.
If the Oilers couldnt win this goal-fest they have no hope.

When the minor penalties of two players of the same team terminate at the same time, the Captain of that team shall designate to the Referee which of such players will return to the ice first and the Referee will instruct the Penalty Timekeeper accordingly.

Exactly - the story of the game was the Flames badly outplaying the Oilers and the Oilers getting back into it because of some soft Goaltending but then having the home team get back to basics and sealing off the game - who cares what McDavid did etc.
