Yeah. There seems to be an awful lot of reliance on something Friedman was told about a phone call that happened 8 months ago. By someone who probably has a vested interest.

I think VGK knew they were in a bind and hoped it would just go through without Dadonov objecting.

Well if there is no dispute that he has an NTC, and we know that he didn't want to waive it, then the conversation is over, no?

Yes, because I'm sick of explaining it over and over.

Yeah the question isnt IF he has a NTC, he does.
What is in question is if Ottawa forwarded the correct list of NTC teams when they sent him to Vegas....cause apparently that is how these things are tracked.
The NTC/NMC clauses of any contracts are not registered with central registry....which I find is both mind boggling and completely ridiculous since they are responsible for making sure each and every deal is under their purview to allow or deny.

The claim by Vegas is that Ottawa told them that Dadonov had missed his deadline to provide an NTC list and therefore the NTC expired because it was not renewed properly. Except he had registered it and can prove it. So either there was a miscommunication (eg Ottawa was just saying it didn’t affect their trade) or Ottawa was wrong/lying.

Teams are responsible for ensuring that they are cap compliant by the time a player is medically fit to return. So if reports that Martinez is fit to play are true, then the VGK are in violation of the letter of this rule as well as clearly being in violation of its intent, and the NHL should immediately apply the prescribed penalties for violation of this rule.

That's just your opinion [what the key points are]. We can all presume the intention of these rules, but lawyers get paid to argue about the ambiguous and sometimes contradictory language in contracts.

I agree that the “fit to play” issue is hard to prove, especially when numerous teams have been criticized for playing guys too early (see Edmonton).
I think the crunch will come when a team holds a guy out on LTIR for cap reasons and the player wants back in. They might be playing for a contract or needing more points to enter UFA, or maybe if they are an older player, close to a bonus stat.

I'm really looking forward to the Vegas - Ottawa lawsuit when trade conversations, notes, and possibly recordings of phone calls get entered into the public record. It might be the best look we'll ever get at exactly what gets said during those conversations and calls.

“Evidence emerged on Tuesday that there is correspondence proving the no-trade paperwork at the core of the Evgenii Dadonov trade dispute was filed correctly and on time, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, adding to the uncertainty over whether or not a deal between the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks will go through.”

Must be killing Gary to rule against his beloved Vegas, why else would this take so long?

Well, this is a forum based on opinions. Let’s call them the points relevant to the current dispute. Can you find something in the wording that would contradict these points?

Heard on the radio that the tax difference between Vegas and Anaheim could be close to 900k for the duration of the contract. Could see why California is probably on his no trade list.
