Personally I think they're crazy for even considering it at the moment.
With how this variant seems to be catching I just can’t see players committing. McDavid is the prime example, I think he’s the first to know that his teams success rides on him and Drai so if both ended up going and ended up contracting there isn’t any doubt that would sewer the Oilers season in a hurry if they ended up missing 2 weeks and a handful of games. Way too many variables to contend with IMO but I do think they are going to use as much time as possible and get as close to the Jan 10th deadline before committing to a decision.

What gives you the impression that McDavid cares about the Oilers season?

McDavid desperately wants to go to the Olympics so he can actually win something other than individual trophies.

Yup. I'd say the NHL's Olympic participation is out.

I don't see how they go either at this point, the league has enough going on in trying to get it's regular season and playoffs completed.

They need to work on getting a proper World Hockey tournament again once this is all over.

Without an Olympic Break, though, the delayed games should be relatively easy to re-schedule... assuming this gets better soon. If not, obviously all bets are off and they'll have to shut the whole thing down.

They should also probably think about doing away with the All Star Break.

I can see China delaying the Olympic's, Unlike Japan they will not have one without full fans and nobody is going to travel to Beijing 7 weeks from now.

Great news. Hopefully the league can use the Olympic break to hopefully reschedule most of the lost games over these next few weeks so certain teams aren't forced to play heavily condensed schedules in the back half of the season.

What's the issue with going to China? There's hardly been a recorded case of covid there in over a year. It's the safest place to be right now.

They will get some games rescheduled but probably not that many. Have to remember that the arenas probably have other scheduled events reserved for the Olympic break
