With the talk of reconciliation and representation of the Treaty 7 and Metis I hope that this group went above and beyond in terms of consultation with the First Nations otherwise it is all for naught.

That flag is atrocious. If it actually took them 6 years to come up with that then I truly question their chosen profession. Nothing wrong with the flag we currently have. Does it scream 1980’s? Hell yeah, but I would time warp to 1983 in a heartbeat. Simpler times back then….

But we can't be a world class city with a cowboy hat on our flag. That it too redneck.

Timely that you mention that, I was reading a reddit arguement earlier on how funny it is that people like to think our cowboy heritage doesn't count. Was interesting how some people like to pretend it's fake or something

I've spent too much time on Reddit recently and the Calgary and Alberta boards are toxic wastelands but I keep coming back to see the insanity progress.

Just idiots arguing over who's the bigger idiot, and I love watching it
I am far from a fan of cowboy hats, but our current flag is hands-down the best of any major city in Canada. Simple, iconic, representative enough that even if they've never seen it before, most Canadians could look at it and identify where it's from. Most flags are either full of symbology that's difficult to decipher, or need to explicitly state the name of the city on them. Take this new flag and ask people what city it represents, and I'd be surprised if anyone guessed Calgary.

This just reeks of more people trying to change things for the sake of change. I get that some things need to change as the world progresses, but the current flag is neither offensive nor controversial. I agree with the above comment. The current flag would probably lead 9/10 Canadians to probably guess Calgary. The new one would probably have 0/10 people associate it with calgary. It's just dumb and a waste of time and resources. How much money would it cost to now replace flags and logos all over the city?

Had a vague recollection of what the current flag looks like (red, white, cowboy hat) so had a quick Google to remind myself of what it looks like. Does that even get much use around the city? Feels like I've never actually seen that flag on a flagpole.

I don't recall seeing the flag very often and I feel that the only time the flag really makes an appearance is during the Stampede for things like the parade and rodeo.
