Objectively they should strip them of the 2010 cup. The NCAA does it all the time.

This is why he needs to be made an example of. So that if this happens tomorrow in another organization and a person of authority catches wind of it, they actually investigate and dig deeper to find out what's going on, rather than brush it aside and hope it goes away on it's own.

No disagreement from me. My only comment was to the fact that the extent of the wrong doings theIy collectively ignored doesn't appear to capture the actual heinousness of the wrong doings that occurred. Of course like you state, this is no excuse, because a prompt and proper investigation should have occurred, and Aldrich should never have been given the opportunity to choose between resignation and an investigation.
Everyone involved needs to face the music, because whether they intended to or not, they allowed this to go on and allowed Aldrich to offend again. I don't think they intentionally protected a sexual predator, but they did so by not investigating.

It does not but they are looking to settle and hopefully it is a hefty settlement for the players involved.

Of course they did.

I think they mean they tried to protect the road to the stanley cup and inadvertently protected the sex offender. I don't think anything did was to protect the loser.

It just seems unlikely that the head of the coaching staff wouldn't have learned about it from someone.

I wonder if Quenneville ever wondered over the next 10 years why he fired his video coach after winning the Stanley Cup. That may have given him a clue as to what may have happened.

Read the report. I don't get that sense at all.
We can say for certain there was an allegation about Aldrich propositioning a player and at least one person saying a threat was made to the player's career, but beyond that it's unclear.
Nobody in the meeting was informed a sexual assault had actually occurred.

That's not what I'm reading?
Quote:
There are multiple accounts of what occurred during the meeting of those senior leaders at the United Center on May 23, 2010. Gary stated that he shared with the senior leaders that Aldrich was pressuring John Doe for sex and threatening to harm John Doe’s career if John Doe did not comply. Others recall Gary’s comments as less stark—that Aldrich had tried to “get under the sheets” with John Doe. At a minimum, the senior leaders, including then- President John McDonough, were informed of alleged sexual harassment of a player by a coach, including efforts by the coach to engage in unwelcome sexual activity with that player. Several witnesses recalled or later told others about a discussion that ensued during the meeting regarding whether the time was right to address the allegations against Aldrich in light of the need to protect team chemistry and avoid bad publicity during the ongoing playoffs.

So, what’s the truth? Did they know fully of the details or did they not? There are two stories there. What we know was there was a coverup. What we don’t know was the degree they were privy to knowing the full story.

Assault =/= harassment.
They were made aware Aldrich tried to sleep with John Doe and threatened his career, but John Doe denied any physical content to Gary, who is the one that brought it to the group.
Unclear who, exactly, knew what actually happened, as apparently Vincent did, but they couldn't find any corroborating evidence of him telling anyone.
EDIT: and just to be clear I'm not making a value judgement on how bad this is based on the knowledge of assault/harassment, just clarifying my wording

They did not know the full details. They did not want to know the full details. That was the outcome of the meeting. They would wait to investigate and act on it until after the playoffs.
It seems that they knew that John Doe was threatened with his career if he did not engage in sexual activity with Aldrich. It seems like they knew that there was probably some form of harassment (Aldrich was also sending dick pics to Black Ace 1) but I do not think they knew there was oral sex involved.

Even “just” sexual harassment is grounds for immediate termination. And it was in 2010 also.
Q is as guilty as the rest.

It’s not actually. What exactly was said to him. Did he say this guy threatened if he didn’t go through with it he’d lose his nhl future? Or was the president told, “video coach was drunk and just horsing around and jumped into bed with a player”. The latter could very easily be dismissed. And yes I’m completely making the statement up to show how things can be interpreted differently. What exactly was said and how it was said we will never know. The quote you provided doesn’t provide enough context aside from a paraphrase.

What difference should those two hypothetical statements make in terms of the guy’s employment? The latter could not be “very easily dismissed”. I have been drunk at some pretty boozy company events (including ones where many were staying at the same hotel) and if I tried to jump into bed with an employee, guess what happens to me.

Buried in all this is that Wirtz says he has directed the Blackhawks lawyers to negotiate a "fair" settlement with the victims instead of continuing to fight the lawsuits in court.

Yeah, he claimed they feel like they have a good defence BUT he had instructed lawyers to seek a settlement.
TBF, almost every defendant instructs their lawyer to seek a settlement. But they don’t announce it.
