When Johnny has time and/or space he is electric.

When he has little or none of either, he is in safety first/ no contact mode.

That is Bennett's issue, he can't play that way in the regular season, he needs to change up his game in the regular season.

He's been really strong and isn't taking it easy on his old team, which is refreshing after what Milan gave us against the Oil last season.

Once again, everyone's doing good things in the 1st period. We lead in the 1st period again.

Let's drive this bus home with the foot on the pedal. No coasting.

Couple of players I've noticed Bigly. Valimaki/Nesterov, Monahan is busting his balls out there. I'm liking the Lindholm line a lot. To me, they're the top line but Monahans got his mojo flowing tonight.

Gaudreau is 50/50 for me so far. He does his offense thing, thats fine, he has a spare second to hustle up on a d play or 2. But man is he baking up a bunch of turnovers. Off whiffed passes, bad dangles, skating into the opposition.

Clean it up bro!

Markstrom, Tanev, and Ryan all had great first periods from my vantage

Zero issues with Nesterov and Valimaki

On the Canucks side I really was not impressed with Schmidt that period.
And he can get shots to the net. Freely it seems. I like that aspect.

Can’t believe I’m about to say this but... I actually like Kevin Bieksa on the panel, and holy crap has Cassie Campbell ever improved. She’s been noticeably better this year.

Both teams had jump to start. Entertaining period. CGY needs to keep energy high, roll lines, skate hard.

VAN 2 man PP got them some momentum at end. Markstrom terrific. Great kill.

Zone time needed for CGY but just stick with their game. Play hard and disciplined.

Great start by CGY!!!

And it seems everyone has learned how to take away his time and space which leads to the second part of your statement more times than not.

Usually he would always have dropped the pass to Gaudreau on the half wall on the PP.

Instead he rifled that beauty cross ice pass to Lindholm that opened up the play for the goal.

Rumors might have him on his toes! He is looking more focused and engaged.

Our defence looks really good guys. That includes our fresh back into the league #6 Nesterov, who's showing a lot of battle for pucks and good offensive instincts. Him and Valimaki have made a great pairing, they're really in sync.

I don't see any glaring weaknesses with these pairings.

Johnny may not have brought any glory yet this game but he had a pretty solid defensive play around the midpoint of the period

I thought Calgary wrested that momentum back by the end of the period.

I'm watching on a delay so I didn't want to spoil myself but my God is Vancouver's bottom six bad. Why do they get so much ice time? Baffling.
