My view has always been I feel more comfortable if the team has a list and is managing it accordingly and not dropping the list to move up because a guy is available that they don't really like, but has dropped and is available.

I swear the Oilers drafted this way in the 90s almost consistently (Riesen, Henrich, Rita)

This is fair, I'm not mad or upset or angry at all here maybe it's conveyed otherwise.

Yup, I always get a kick out of the definitive statements during the draft, especially after the 1st round.

Just checked out the 2016 2nd day draft thread for fun.

Saw posters disappointed that the Flames missed out on Korshkov 31st (1 GP), Benson 32nd (7 GP), Laberge 36th (0 GP), etc. Plus criticism of the Adam Fox pick for being a waste as he was only 5'10" while missing out on Cliff Pu (0 GP).

What I did say was there were a number of players who were for sure going to go early in the 2nd round (listed those) because the scouts and "insiders" ranked them very highly as impact players.

We all know the draft is a complete crapshoot but certain picks/players give you a better shot. Dont even know why I have to type this out lol....

Well, that is quite a leap. Scouting is important for exactly reasons like this. The Flames aren't making their picks based off of what The Athletic or ESPN is writing.

I'm not sure why you're so upset the Flames didn't give up assets to trade up and draft a player that you haven't even watched play. The majority of players picked from here on out won't make the NHL.

You do know players such as Datsyuk, Benn, Gaudreau, Point, Brodie, Fox, etc were picked later in the draft? Enjoy the day, this fun!

Unless someone the team really likes falls within range, I would be more than happy to come away with players at 50, 72, and 80. Might as well reward the scouts with the extra picks.

If Treliving wants someone, this is the zone where he moves up - a couple spots. On the other hand, if there’s a group of equivalent players he stays put or even moves down.
