Like I needed another reason to hate West Ham.

What was the point of Trent Crimm locking his keys in his car? Some kind of symbolism that I’m missing?

That was all very predictable, other than I guess the billionaire's extreme reaction to Sam declining his offer. I'm kind of annoyed by the extremely corporate, self-congratulatory portrayal of the whole mental health angle. The final match didn't really feel like much of a moment - not that it was ever what the show was about, but the football really has ceased to matter almost entirely.
Just kind of a meh resolution to the season, I thought.

No idea really, but:
Some type of parallelism to Beard’s dropping keys?
A subtle jab that Trent should instead have a convertible Benz to let the wind flow through his spectacular hair?
Symbolism that Trent is now locked out of journalism?
Trying to show that Trent is so detail oriented but yet can still made a mistake?
Or maybe, like many mid-80s Mercedes, the car is beautiful but simply costs too much to maintain and so the darn thing just doesn’t run anyway?

I’ve never wanted to physically kick the crap out of a fictional character more than I wanted to the guy at the end of the episode.
This is a great thread on Nate’s character development though and how they foreshadowed his bully side.

The writing in this show is so good.

I'm not sure the football every really mattered to the show.

The football has mattered to the show IMO. Watching how the team deal with disappointment in season 1 was really good television I thought, as well as the impact of Jamie's selfishness on the field.
Maybe not the football action itself.
This was an enjoyable 12 episodes this season, even if it wasn't at the level of season 1.

Football is really just a stand in for any sport though. The game itself is not important.

Its a foil.
Its what brings the cast together and its whats used to drive the underlying plot forward.

My only complaint about the way they use football is used in the show is everything either coming down to the final seconds, or being over before it starts. I think you could do a better job capturing the spirit of the game even without going into the details, while still using it in a similar storytelling role.

You are entirely correct, but its just being used as a plot device.

Trent Crimm, Independent.
(marginally spoilery but really just speculation at this point)

But yeah, what was with him not having his keys? Not sure what the point of that was.

It's a tv show so I'm not too concerned about the logistics or reality too much, but I'd be curios if anyone that follows footy can provide some insight...
If a club tied their first 7 (or was it 8?) games, I would just assume they would have dug too much of a hole to be in a position for promotion. What sort of record do you think they would have needed after their big draw streak?

Watford finished 2nd in the championship last year with 91 points and a record of 27-10-9 (w-d-l)
BrentFord finished third and had a record of 24-15-7. So they would have to win a lot of games but it’s certainly doable. It might have been a little more realistic to have them play in the playoff 3 place to 6 place have that. Technically if they didn’t tie that last game they would still have a chance at promotion.

Anyone know when Season 3 is scheduled to air?
With a free subscription to Apple TV+, watching the episodes as they drop each week is fine, but if I’m going to be a paying subscriber, I might feel like it would be better to wait until every episode has aired and then binge watch them all in one month to save money.

I think you guys may be looking too deep on Trent and the keys. He was shown to be a strong, confident character while dealing with Ted and the team in both positive and negative interactions.
Now he is nervously excited about what his future is and who he is now. It was just a slight slip up to show that newfound vulnerability and imperfection in a previously perfect and sure character.

Yeah, I agree on that take. I think it's a similar scene-end to when the teacher uttered '****ing glitter' after Roy left, a few episodes ago. Someone portrays themself one way infront of another person, then shows a little more depth and humanity once alone.

#### you Nate!
I think how he moves between a victim and superiority complex is what gets me.
From self-loathing to pompously ungrateful, with little middle ground. Meanwhile people have given him every chance to be a part of the group and fit in, but he refuses to take it. It seem he's drawn to the alienation of either being a loser which is what he's always known, or the alienation of greatness. Either way, he stands alone. He's obviously going to realize how much that sucks when it dawns on him all the bridges he's burned.
Should be a good season. Ted averting the bubbly water this time was funny, reminiscing on the ending of last season.
And holy #### the savage rant from the billionaire was something else. Sam handled it like a boss. Unperturbable.
