I seriously can't even with this post...

As as far as I'm aware, I've never interacted with you before now, so this is based 100% on your posts in this thread.. but I just want you to know that I think you are an actual piece of ####. And I really don't care if I get banned for saying it because I hardly use this board anymore, but I had to say something and you're really not worth any more of a response than that.

I know the idea was to let this thread play out to show how disgusting people can be, but it's quickly becoming the most deplorable thread in the history of this board...

I’ll defend my country , Canada do the death. The police aren’t perfect, but you don’t hear about this systemic racial issues with (black men) in this country. As a matter of fact; I can’t think of a single time any of my black friends or coworkers have ever mentioned to me that they were afraid of being pulled over by the cops and harassed. In 38 years in this country I’ve never seen a cop pull over a black man and beat him. I’m not saying it doesn’t and hasn’t happened, but to make it sound like it’s a normal thing in this country? That’s bs, and I’m not buying it. And I don’t care what you think of me.

You obviously don’t remember the Boston pizza gift card jailbait thread.

On topic, I personally feel like even though the broader term of “systemic racism“ can be used in Canada, our issues are so fundamentally different that it’s almost pointless to talk about race, racism and policing in Canada as a comparison to the USA.

Not to say it isn’t worth discussing but imo the NHL postponing games is much more about the issues in the USA than it is about Canada. Again, not that our problems don’t matter, it’s just that the problems down south are somewhat unique and require special intervention.

Our issues need a tailored solution for Canada. What works, or inevitably fails, down south won’t be instantly translatable to our issues.

I disagree, and here’s why. If you don’t call out racism, especially when it’s explicitly racist, you’re letting it fester and grow. You’re never confronting the root of the problem, instead just dealing with a few basic symptoms as they come up. By refusing to call racism, racism, you are reinforcing it. Racism, and racists, rely on it being hidden, so it’s absolutely essential to blow it out in the open as you see it.

You’re suggesting there’s two options, call out racism, or countering points as they’re raised. You should do both, and doing one and refusing to do the other is equally ineffective regardless of which you choose.

You can defend and love your country while accepting that it has issues and flaws.

A good friend of mine got drunk and didn't have a good time, RCMP beat the #### out of him.

I got drunk and didn't have a good time, VPD made sure I got home safe.

He's a 250 pound former collegiate football playing black guy. I'm a 250 pound hockey playing white guy. We're both big, we both present the same threats. Treatment was only different for one reason.

But I suppose I'm just lying too.

The thing is, unless you're a black man, you don't ####ing get to tell them how they should feel about this. You sit there, you listen to what they have to say, and try your best to offer support and help the situation if there's a good way to do that. You don't tell him that he's lying and his story and feelings are BS.

Because he started off by saying that it’s a problem here too. As if that’s evidence of a much larger problem of racism in our police force. Everyone can have a story of oppression. But I think it needs to be on a much higher scale before you call it a major problem or systemic.

I mean this sincerely: If you don’t think Canada has systemic racism, you might not know what systemic racism is or means.

I love Canada, but we do have a problem. It might not be as obvious or bad as the U.S., but we do.

Every country on this planet has a history of systemic racism. If we didn’t, than we would all be one race and not mixed.

So NBA/NHL players are taking two days off in luxury hotels and then resuming the schedule and making up the "boycotted games"

I'm not really surprised by the cynical take I am seeing around the interwebs. Nobody is losing any money here except the league covering costs for a couple more days.

Texans kick off the NFL schedule two weeks tonight...what are the chances that game is cancelled? Zero?

It is a problem here though. It may not be as bad as the US where they just regularly execute unarmed black men on the street for some reason, but it is still absolutely a problem here. Are we not allowed to acknowledge that just because we're not as bad as other places?

I’ll admit there is a problem. Look at my argument, man. Black men in this country. I didn’t say it didn’t exist. But I do not believe they need to live in fear like royal said.
