If you take first aid training they tell you this so you don’t take drastic measures but you don’t let the person suffer for nine minutes. He definitely had difficulty breathing and I don’t see any reason why the cop had to have his knee on Floyd’s neck for that long.
|
True but I don't think it was a lack of oxygen that killed him. You can breath all you want but if your brain isn't getting blood you die...right around the five minute mark as bad luck would have it. Just on the surface it surprised me that someone would think everything is ok as long as you can take a breath. All pending autopsy of course.

In case you were wondering how the QAnon kooks would be handling this, apparently the cop was also involved in Sandy Hook and the Boston Marathon bombing

More people of color were arrested peacefully doing their job of reporting the news than white people have been arrested for the murder of George Floyd.

I'm unsure how damaged the precinct may be, but how many open and ongoing cases would have been affected by this? I'm sure that designated evidence rooms are built to withstand more damage, but there has to be significant files, evidence, and systems crippled by the fire and destruction.
The injustices are just going to keep climbing.

People on one side of the social political spectrum are worried about being censored by twitter, by having their guns taken away, by having to think about anything but what’s good for themselves.
People on the other side are worried about their lives and the lives of their neighbours.
These are not hard lines, there is crossover, there are many many other concerns, but these are the issues that are spoken about the loudest. It’s little wonder why “the right” in Western countries has so little support from the media, social media platforms, and sensible people in general. When you see and learn about enough of the world, you generally end up gaining the empathy required to be a good person. When your struggle isn’t just financial, but based on who you were born as (race, gender, sexuality, etc) you have a different view of what life is like. I’m a little bit over the “equal” representation argument. People who do not care about the lives of other people do not deserve equal representation. If you’re fine with others dying or struggling so long as it doesn’t impact you, you are not a good person, and you do not deserve representation in matters that impact everyone.
I don’t care if that means I’m labelling millions of people as scumbags. They’re scumbags. The current US administration and their supporters are an embarrassment. And Canada, while not the same, has many of the same. We see it on this board in the people who dismiss and argue against the importance of human lives or the suffering of others, the people who don’t even “see” it, and we see it in the people that vote for parties whose policies don’t just hurt people, they kill people, all because they wanted to save a little bit of money.
It probably feels real tough living in a world where you don’t think others care about your hard earned money or your right to say whatever random thing comes out of your mouth. It’s a whole lot tougher living in a world where you know people don’t care about your life or if you die. And where some wish you would.

Reading something intelligent and coherent from Obama just proves yet again that 2020 isn't the time to have a mentally unwell, lying, racist narcissist leading the country.
At least for Trump having a riot in Minny deflects from the 103k+ dead in that country from the pandemic, many of which are due to his incompetence and slow response. So he's got that going for him today.

"In the course of clearing the streets and restoring order at Lake Street and Snelling Avenue, four people were arrested by State Patrol troopers, including three members of a CNN crew. The three were released once they were confirmed to be members of the media."
|
Do the police not realize that there's video? I mean, the guy they arrested with that big camera that they confiscated should have been a pretty clear giveaway. Outright lies by the police involved (multiple departments) has been a constant over the last couple days.
The statement by the Minneapolis police regarding the George Floyd incident stated this:
"After he got out, he physically resisted officers. Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress"
The video evidence shows no resisting and "appeared to be suffering medical distress" being code for "an officer kneeing him until he died of suffocation" is low even for police.
Keep that in mind the next time there's no video recording. You can't trust the police, they'll out right lie to your faces.
There's also video of a riot police walking by protesters doing nothing illegal, pointing their non-lethal guns at them and saying "give us a reason."
Absolutely disgusting behaviour by the police. ACAB.

As with the L.A riots and officers Koon and Powell, wait for the conviction. What should be life, could very well be less than a year.

After the last two nights they had to arrest him to avoid more riots. But anything less than a conviction/guilty plea here will probably unleash nationwide riots.

Yeah, anyone who has ever given a piggy back ride to a 4-year old knows how quick a little pressure in the right spot can cut off oxygen even the mechanics of taking in oxygen to the lungs isn't stopped.
As if the murder wasn't bad enough, it pours salt on the wound when the police make a statement claiming he was resisting. The video clearly shows that he was handcuffed with relative ease.

CNN is interviewing a club owner Maya Santamaria where George Floyd and Chauvin worked. Weird. So the cop killed one of his coworkers.

Taking down a police precinct was pretty next level stuff.
With a little more organization and planning, maybe National Guard armory is possible.

As they should. It would be different if this were an isolated incident. It would be different if civil disobedience was met with earnest attempts at institutional changes.
