I get that Smith is a strong personality and needs to get back on his game, but you can't keep letting the hill turn into a mountain when every minute of icetime is so crucial at this point in the season.
In retrospect, probably should have pulled him after the third goal.

Don't know how much Smith should get flack for that. Complete defensive letdown to give Boychuk that much time and room to wind up that close and then a uncontested rebound.

Yeah, I don't know if I can handle another year of him. I don't think he's the sole reason this team has underachieved (though he's a part of it), but this style of hockey just isn't entertaining.

Glen Johnson at intermission talked about how he couldn’t understand why the Flames weren’t just throwing everything at the net given the Islanders goaltending and how the Islanders completely changed their approach as soon as they saw Smth was off to shoot from everywhere.
He basically called Gulutzan an imbecile.

I know it sounds crazy but why not take a page from the islanders book and just start putting more on net. Enough of the down low cycle or d to d... get traffic to the net and shoot the damn puck!!

This exactly. Roger's took a big idea that could work with great production and decent financial commitment.
But like everything they do, they sold the big idea and then injected pennies to pull it off. The bands they get play very small gigs and Rogers tries to sell them as a huge national performance that millions should tune into.

He was never meant to be the answer. Mike Smith won't be here after next season. I thought it was pretty obvious that he's just a stop gap until one of the younger guys is ready.
That said, Smith has been the least of this team's issues this year. He's been bad tonight but they can't score. Kind of as simple as that.
