I forgot the Flames had an 2nd in the 2018 draft, so that's an ignorant win.
Going to miss the first round pick though. Hopefully the Flames can still sign Stone.
The defensive depth in the organization is absolutely ridiculous.

Hamilton was a steal, this is just fair value

I think with how good our draft was last year, we were able to sacrifice these picks. I am okay with this trade, and think Hamonic will bounce back (even if just a little bit).
Plus he has a great contract and makes less than Russell. The Oilers traded Hall last year for a worse player.

Happy with getting Hamonic, but man, that is a steep price to pay.

Conditions get a little complicated. If CGY misses playoffs in 2019, NYI gets the 2nd round pick that year.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
18s
That's because there's a pre-existing deal in place with ARI, that if CGY makes playoffs in 2019, ARI gets CGY's 2nd rounder.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
now
So if ARI gets that 2019 2nd rder, NYI will get 2020 2nd round pick from CGY.
|
haha thats great! Has any GM hedged draft picks between 2 teams like that before?

CliffFletcher is going to take issue with this.. But he incorrectly complained about "how many 20 year olds play" well Rasmus turns 21 before the season starts, an opportunity is there.. Or should be..

I thought Brodie and Stone had good chemistry, and Stone had a big point shot as well. Hamonic is an upgrade but I hope he and Brodie can make it work. On paper they should...

So the Flames as of right now have no 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick for the 2018 draft.

If CGY sends NYI a 2nd in 2019, the 4th the Flames get back is also in 2019. If CGY sends 2nd in 2020, the 4th rder they get back is 2020.

I think the trade is pretty fair, but I am not so sure Stone signs here at this point.

Should be really fun watching the team next year but really wish we weren't ridding ourselves of all draft picks.

Shaping up to be 1 pick in first 3 rounds over 2 years. Yikes.

Agreed. If this top 4 can't carry/shelter a young 5 and 6, you've got problems IMO...

Yeah, there's something going the other way, but allow yourself to just have even an ounce of fun as a fan. We're looking to jump into contender status in the next two to three years. This is how that starts to happen, not by stockpiling picks and prospects til the commissioner goes "Wow, look at that future, here's the Stanley Cup!!!".
Enjoy this stuff, it's awesome!
|
I agree with you 100 times over! Our cupboards aren't bare in the system, and we don't need 30 "top prospects" down in the minors either. Nashville has made bold moves, Pittsburgh has made bold moves, and look where it got them.
3 years of a top 4 dman with a great cap hit...call me crazy but that is a great pick up. If they can add a scoring RW, then I call this offseason a success. With that D infront of Mike Smith, I'm not so worried
