Hamonic had a bit of a rough season last year according to Islanders fans. Also what was discussed is Hamonic has similar "elite character" that Engellend had.

I'm all over this - although still definitely hoping we can get it done for slightly less than two 1st, or if it's possible do the two 1sts but get another pick back in a different round to try and recoup.
The #4 spot locked in - and all our key spots are filled. I'd love it.

Orrrrr... you split up your three dman pairs to play ~20 minutes a game with Hamonic and Andersson taking the weaker competition AND it gives Andersson the chance to learn from a legitimate defensemen and someone who can cover up for his mistakes.
Keeping it balanced man.

Two firsts?
Wouldn't be happy paying more for Hamonic than we did Dougie

I think this is an instance like when Gio's initial ask was $9M per. That is the initial ask but it will have to come in much lower.
1st + Fox for Hamonic + 3rd

Have to find a way not to trade Fox, especially if we lost Hickey. Would rather give up Kylington or Andersson instead at this point - but only if we have to.

The difference between aquiring Hamonic (asking 2 firsts!) and Stone (FA) is staggering. I'd turn on the management team quickly if we even considered Hamonic in that scenario. Im not even giving up a single mid round first for a middle pairing Dman like Hamonic.

That might be even worse.

Sounds to me like Hamonic has once again asked the Islanders to move him and Snow will not likely get better offers after today so if he's in a position where the player wants to be moved the asking price may come down as things get closer to the first round commencing. Two first rounders was probably his starting point but if they really want to get a deal done it will come down as no team will offer that for Hamonic. I'm thinking a first rounder this year plus a prospect will get it done for a team.

There are other D men out there worth talking about, yes?
Scandella would be a nice add. Colin Miller as well. Cody Franson available as UFA, again.

Ashax mentioned in the other thread trying to get Gudas. IMO I think he would be perfect for this team, he's defensive (and good at it) has a good contract, he's mean and nasty as hell and is the right age. Is there any chance the Flyers move him? I remember asking about him when he was on Tampa and a lot of people said there was no way he'd move and he did, any chance it happens again?

I think next year's first maybe plus a prospect (Dube?) would be a good trade for Hamonic. You take the gamble that Hamonic helps you take the next step, so the pick lower in the first round is less valuable.
Demers is also a decent option.
Still, I think we stick with the pick and sign Stone.

Rumour about Hamonic probably just to pressure Stone a bit. I doubt Brad is willing to give up a first rounder for him...

I could see us landing Hamonic and signing Stone to be honest

Flames defense prospect depth took a big hit when they moved Hickey. Moving Fox for a short-term player doesn't make sense. They need to plan for the possibility of losing Brodie down the line because of budget. You need those good young players coming through the system or your team falls apart because of an unsustainable budget. A big no to moving Fox unless there is a huge payment coming back, and Hamonic is not that payment.

people always say it's bad to plug one hole by making another, we don't want to trade Ferland for help on D because then we'd have a big hole to fill on the right side from losing Ferland. Trading picks and prospects is doing the same thing, you can't always trade away picks and prospects because this team needs a future and the shelves don't seem that full right now. I agree with maybe trading one first+ but 2 first round picks would be insane. If anything, I want them to get more first rounders for next year, Tkachuck Jr. Jr. is there and it would be awesome to get him too!

I am not convinced Fox is anything more than an offensive Dman and also not convinced he will sign here so I would move him ahead of Kylington or Andersen who I value as our top 2 blueline prospects.
Hamonic is signed for 3 years and possibly could be extended from there.
Friedman made a good point on the radio today stating that we need 2 elite pairs to go to war with the Oilers and Hamonic is the perfect fit imo. He brings a lot of the same character that made Engellend beloved by his teammates. He has the mean streak and can actually play against top competition. He also comes to Calgary as a second pairing guy so wouldn't even have to do all the heavy lifting.
Having Gio-Hamilton, and Brodie-Hamonic locked up for the next 3 years at $20.95M makes it a lot easier to keep other players. To get a Dman who is turning 27 signed for 3 more years at $3.8M really helps the Flames compete immediately.
The window is opening. Core players outside of Bennett and Tkachuk all are on contracts to take them to UFA. Flames should be aggressive to put the team in a a spot to improve and push for the division/cup. I think if they could add Hamonic and a top line RW this is a top 7-10 team in the league

I would do Adam Fox and a lottery protected 2018 1st round pick for Hamonic. I think he's the perfect fit for Brodie, and is a tier up from Stone.
I like Stone, but guy is a borderline 4th dman. He's better suited for bottom pairing IMO, and if we did get Hamonic, I'd try to get Stone in at 3M per year.

The absolute best thing about a guy like Hamonic is what he will do for Brodie's game. I still think he is the team's best Dman, which is saying quite a bit.
