When they showed Elliott's highlight reel late in the game it was kind of eye opening how many outstanding saves he made tonight. Maybe the best playoff performance by a Flames goaltender in the playoffs since Kipper in his prime. As long as they keep getting goaltending like that they have a chance.

Three straight against the ducks now where we have the lead and blow it in the second, only to be stood up by their defensive game in the third. We need to be better in the second.

I ain't even mad.
Honestly, it was a good hockey game and I really don't understand why some people are so negative about all of it.
A couple of brutal mental mistakes and a complete lack of discipline is what cost the team tonight. They were in this game until the very end and almost tied it but Gibson made an incredible save.
You aren't going to win many games giving up 7 power plays, plain and simple.
Two months ago this team was left for dead, the mere fact we're in the playoffs is awesome and will only serve these guys well moving forward. People need to sit back and relax and just enjoy some playoff hockey.

Playoff hockey is the hardest hockey to coach, in fact playoff anything is the hardest thing to coach, that's why every coach doesn't have a Cup ring and there are historically upsets every year.
Hey I agree, and I'm not going to argue with you, I wasn't happy with Brouwer, but after his previous playoff performance you need to give him every chance to show that he's a big game player, especially a guy with his level of experience.
Clearly he wasn't.
And I clearly understand the three losses math, I think most of us do, we're not new.
But right now, its one loss, its happened its done, hopefully the team bounces back on Saturday.

956 penalty minutes in the regular season - most of any team. Problem continues, but even worse in game 1. Simply cannot win if we take so many dumb penalties.
Hockey is so much about momentum, and it fairly regularly saps any positive momentum and rhythm in our game. Not sure why the coaches have not been able to correct this obvious problem.

Wow. I can understand the frustration but it's only one game. Does anyone remember games 1 and 2 against Anaheim in 2015? That Flames team had an uphill battle.
This year, we've got a chance. A pretty good chance. They were better tonight (especially since we weren't very good at times) but I guarantee the Flames will learn from this loss. Doesn't guarantee a different result in game 2 of course but this is what playoff hockey is all about. Reload and answer!

I would disagree with this sentiment entirely.
He needs to be WAY better than tonight if this team has a hope.

One or two more years for the Flames of drafting in the top 6 might have gotten them into the point where they could compete if they had kept those drafted players in the minors for a few seasons. But now they are looking at blowing it up again, trading middling to underachieving players again (Johnny and Sammy) in order to get mid round picks... this team is 7-8 years away from beginning to compete yet again... Damn... I feel like I said this at the beginning of the year. This team is no good and this team has no real chance of being good for many a year. The stupid canucks will win a cup before this hopeless team.
Let the hate flow...

Ferland had 7 shots on goal (next closest Flame had 3), was dangerous all night, yet played only 27 seconds of the game's final 9+ minutes.
in a game where you need all the help you can get, this is pretty unforgivable, especially having brouwer out there on the 5 on 3 instead.

Did some good things, ultimately a bad change and a penalty 30 seconds later lost this game.
The discipline crap is getting old though - so many obstruction calls were called our way and not their way, it's not like we were taking dumb roughing/retaliation penalties and the one called on Dougie was brutal and only called because the ref saw two pieces of a stick afterwards.
They missed a call on the backlund breakaway and missed the two many men early that actually lead to the play that lead to the trip.
This game wasn't as doom and gloom as some are making it out to be; just was super frustrating.
Bright side??? Ferland is a beast in multiple ways now no doubt, what a game.

Maybe you should find a board that's more in line with your emotions then CalgaryPuck.
I'm sure there's an angry prospector board out there but to sign up you probably have to be able to use such words as Fiddlefaddle and Conswarnit.

Adjust, regroup and come back at it Saturday night.
If the Flames can leave Anaheim with a split all will be well.
