The NHL seems devoid of true Legends. Heart and soul, skilled, power forwards like Iginla are on their way out and are being replaced by little skinny zit faced nerds who don't have to pay the price.

Most teams in the Flames situation can never make that move which is why it's typically the same teams in the playoffs every year.

Due to the draft rules, and players aging, there does exist a constant revolving door of successful teams, it's just on a slow timeline ... when the Avs were dominate, the Hawks were a bottom feeder...those roles will reverse again.

For me, the game lacks toughness, now...the upside is players like Gaudreau can flourish in today's game... (im not saying he wouldn't have been amazing in others eras, I'm simply making a generalized point about small, skilled players)
I'm likely alone on this one, but I can't stand the lack of logic in having some games worth 50% more points than other games...to me, it makes hockey look like an arena football level sport.

This is the first year I can remember since the late 80s that I haven't been glued to the TV, revolving my schedule around games, and being emotionally invested in the team.
I can't explain it. I don't find the games that intriguing to watch anymore and have become satisfied viewing the highlights on my phone after the game is over, browsing the PGT threads here and listening to the post-game show if I have time to find out how the game went.
Maybe it just took me a long time to realize the Flames aren't all that.

I think eliminating any points for a loss would have a noticeable impact on the excitement of a game, especially late.

Figured I would bump this thread. Given the ongoing debacle over the new arena, I'm finding that with the season right around the corner, I'm firmly in "could not give a ####" status going into the opener. Anyone else?

Not me. Got my tickets bought for this year, still buying merchandise and watching as much pre-season as possible. Hockey is my escape and I like to get away as much as humanly possible.

I get the sentiment, but I've never cheered for the President or owners. I cheer for the GM down. So while this distraction is childish and stupid, it won't change my enjoyment for the team.
Having said that, I'm not a season ticket holder and maybe get to an average of 1 game per year, so there's not a lot of my money that goes to the franchise aside from my cable bill. So I can understand if some longtime season ticket holders or other people who have much more invested in the team are a tad put out.
I'll also say that the lockouts were just as messy if not more messy than this arena debacle. This just feels more personal.

It's dampened things for me considerably, especially since it's the big sword dangling over our heads until something is certain.

I intentionally try to separate the game from the business side. As much as the politicking and business is part of the game today, it is much easier to maintain the love for the game if you just concentrate on the ice. I still love watching hockey and I love following the Flames. I have been doing it for around 35 years and actually want to expand on it. I have never seen the Flames play away (Penticton doesn't count) so I still have a bunch of hockey items on my bucket list.

I'm actually the opposite lately, I cant remember the last time I've been so pumped for the season, I think the team looks really good.
The Arena stuff sucks, and I have my takes and opinions, but its out of my hands, they'll figure it out.
As for me, I find all aspects of hockey interesting, the business, the tactics, the plays everything, I really like it all which means that when the business side gets tedious (like now) I can look at the sport side of it.
But man oh man do we need that opening night puck-drop. Get this election out of the way and drop the goddamn puck.

I'm still excited about the season because of our roster, but definitely losing any sense of loyalty to the ownership or league (which I don't really have a high opinion of as is) because of their rhetoric. Decided not to buy any tickets to live games until they stop acting like petulant children.
Treliving on down = Happy to support. Burke and up = No thanks.

Got news for you. When you need to go out of your way and put in effort to ensure strangers know that you don't care about something, you're caring.
That's not how not-caring works.
