You think the new system (whatever that is) is that much different then the old system? I honestly cant think of another reason as to why the flames look like Team Europe first game against NA.

I'm losing confidence in this coaching staff. He had an entire off season, Pre season, now 5 games to get this team going. Are his systems just horrible ? Or are our players completely useless ? I don't know. I just feel like this coaching hire was bad. We should have tried to at least get a real NHL coach.

Hockey is a game of confidence. The Calgary flames have none

I remember when Brent Sutter's Flames were overthinking and not reacting naturally. This looks worse than that.

Honestly it looks like EVERY flames player can't handle even a hint of puck pressure from the other team and has nobody supporting the puck to pass it to.
I'm not sure if that's the system or just a team wide case of absolutely zero confidence.

Gulutzan leaves Vancouver for Calgary, Vancouver gets better and Calgary gets worse... coincidence? Maybe

You get confidence by doing things right over and over again.

We really miss Paul Byron on the PK. He got another short handed breakaway today and he actually scored but we could really use his speed 5 on 5 as well.

I think there's a substantial difference. Not sure if the new system is good or not, but it's very different.
Gulutzan is preaching going for low chance opportunities and scoring on the rebound/tip. They keep shooting into the chest or on the pads hoping for it to bounce out. There's a substantial amount of chip and chase going on as well. Contrast Hartley's system of scoring on the rush and quick transition offence. And I can't tell what the transition strategy is for Gulutzan...but it just isn't working. Nobody knows where to go or who to look for.

I'm not blaming him for this dogsh*t start to the season, but I am predicting he's going to be fired.

Sadly, they were actually far worse those first 2 games. At least the massive defensive f ups are gone.

Here's my idea for a system. Everyone try and score. Funnel pucks to the net and crash it. As soon as anyone gets the puck, turn up the ice. Get the puck to Brodie whenever possible. Skate as fast as you possibly can. What's the point of being in such incredible shape if you can't run up and down the ice like a superhero.
Wingers, stick to your point men like glue. The centre and D play man on man below the hash marks and don't let anyone get behind you.
Goalies, stop the first shot and don't let out bad rebounds.
How hard is that? How creatively bankrupt can you be as a coaching staff to be unable to make proper use of Johnny frickin Gaudreau. He's your proverbial handful of fifties in a cathouse.

Hard to do that when your team is playing like a bunch of individuals. It seems to be every player for themselves this season. The team game has never appeared.
