He was pretty invisible except on the PK. We have better options for the Backlund - Frolik pairing. I don't think it's a good idea to starve their offensive production with Higgins stinking up the offensive zone.

I think Bouma - Backlund - Frolik might be a thing if Bouma can keep up his tenacious play.

- Elliott looked solid, shook off the early goal which in no way was on him.
- Shinkaruk had some good flashes, I notice him making plays which gives me hope.
- Ferland was all over the puck, but he continues to be poor at passing. Needs to work on his accuracy.
- Bouma looked better than any point last season and the hit/fight was icing on the cake.
- Chiasson was decently noticeable out there. He'll get some more looks.
- Vey looks like the shell of a skilled player. You can see something was there, but the confidence and swagger is gone.
- Bennett continued his beast mode streak.
- Stajan stood out in a bad way offensively.
- Brouwer had good times and bad times.
Well said. Had a close up view tonite in the lower bowl.

Tkachuk has plenty of speed already for NHL. He was first up the ice a few times. His real gift in his hockey IQ, tenacity and shot. Those two goals were snipers goals. He stays for the season, that i have little doubt.

Gelina feels Brouwer with Bennett/Tkachuk is the perfect line. They want Brouwer to teach those two to be pros. That line scores 65 goals this year 5 on 5 and as 2nd powerplay unit.

Ferland played with lots of energy tonite. He showed his speed and skill. Almost scored on a pretty play in the 2nd period. Also really hussled to battle for a puck with Smith behind net that just about converted. I think he will get a serious look at 1RW once Johnny/Mony back. He is one player that can give Johnny some room on the ice. Just cannot figure out why Ferland took a step back last year after such a fantastic Canucks playoff series.

Bouma definitely looked much better than last year. He is looking like Stajan`s partner for season unless he moves up to Backlund line at times which would not be a bad option either. Bouma/Stajan/Hathaway will generate some 4th line goals.

Shinkaruk was so-so. One really nice surprise backhand shot. He could learn as the 3LW with Backlund and Frolik. That`s where I would put him.

Chiasson was okay. Chiasson is going to make this team and play up and down the lines when not in press box.

Did not see enough from Vey or Higgins to make team. I would take F. Hamilton and Hathaway over these two. One or both end up in Stockton.

Thought Dougie Hamilton had a good game. Jokipakka was so-so.

Elliott was a rock as always. He will steal many games for us this year.

Don't have much to add that others haven't mentioned.

PTO's: Don't sign any of them.

-Higgins was invisible aside from one takeaway (Which he then turned over immediately)

-Vey had a few decent shifts but it's not even close to enough to make the team over Freddie or Hatheway (edit: Forgot he has a 2 way, not PTO. He stays in Stockton imo)

-Grossman. Solid fight, but crappy player. Too slow, loses his man in the d zone, and offensively? Well he tee'd himself up for a strong slapshot into an open lane, only to send the puck damn near vertical straight into the netting.

As for the rest of the team:

-Elliot: Just so good. So calm and just knows exactly where the puck is. Watching him play is amazing. When I say he's calm, I mean it. He has absolutely no extra or wasted movements.

-Bennett: Yup, going to have a breakout year. I expect him to solidify himself as a legit 2C

-Brouwer: Had a quiet but good game. Fanned on a couple grade A scoring chances but was solid everywhere on the ice. There was a scrum in the second period where a Coyote player shoved Tkachuk right onto his ass, and immediately Brouwer skated over and had some words with that player

-Tkachuk: He's making the team. There's no doubt in my mind. Everyone knows and is talking about his goal and shootout goal but what I really noticed is he's good in his own end as well. Always had a man covered and ferocious on the backcheck

-Chaisson: Meh. Had a few chances but didn't get close to finishing them. Didn't really stand out. This is the guy that'll just move around the lineup and sit in the press box from time to time

-Shinkaruk: Had a quite came with a few nice surprise offensive chances. I think he makes the team this year as well

-Ferland: Looked pretty good out there. I think he's who ends up playing on the first line

-Bouma: Had a strong game. 10-15 goals this season wouldn't be out of reach imo.

@hardhohn16
With Elliot not starting tomorrow, he finishes pre season stopping 51/53 shots faced. That's a .962 SV% folks, we have ourselves a goalie.

Watching those highlights makes me wonder why this game wasn't at least streamed on the Flames website. Would it be that hard to stream the jumbotron feed?

Is it just me or Gio looks.. even faster on that first rush than he's been the last few years?

Reverse Aging Serum Confirmed.

He looked really fast out there, but it is year one of a six year contract!

His window for a Norris is the next 3 years. Here is hoping...

Not a big deal, just smile at the guy in the urinal next to you and ask him who he likes.

That Tkachuck - Bennett - Brouwer line looks deadly.
