Still can't believe someone thought that was a good idea.
Original painting or mascot, immaterial.

Or anything the Oilers have done since about 2006?
Maybe with the sole exception of acquiring Lubomir Visnovski... but definitely including subsequently trading him for Ray Whitney... and everything else...

It wasn't Ray "The Wizard" Whitney, who even at that point in his career was still pretty good with 3 50+ point seasons still to come. No, instead it was the injury plagued defenceman Ryan Whitney, who never played a full season for the Oilers. Visnovsky for Ryan Whitney - no good.

I think the best part is the sheer lack of insight or thought put into it.
I mean, you can point to Scorch (who is awesome for the record) as a Flames 'mascot blunder' but the reality of that is that it was our minor league affiliate, although I'm game for a Harvey and Scorch Partnership as soon as it can be arranged.
This was an NHL club who just realized that Cheerleaders were a stupid idea and then doubled down on some sort of evil mutant cat.
And it isnt like anyone had a gun to their heads or anything, they had all the conceivable time in the Universe to come up with this. Absolute eons.
This was legitimately the best product their combined intellects and assembled talent could come up with.
Which sounds about right, knowing what we know about their talent and intellect.

Aside from the "dead" fireman on the ground in the one picture, was there really much blunder to Scorch?
Greatest mascot of all time.

I think the only way you can redeem this mascot is if, on opening night, he eviscerates all of the Oilers' former cheerleaders.
Starting with Craig MacTavish and Kevin Lowe and then moving on....

A sign celebrating the opening of the last leg of Edmonton’s Anthony Henday Drive ring road caused a stir on social media over the weekend.
SPOILER reason: NSFW (language)

That's got to be photoshopped, right?
I know they pride themselves on being the trashy craphole of Canada, but this is some next level stuff right here.

I think it's hilarious personally.
Anyone who does more than a half-chuckle and shake their head as they drive by has a stick wayyyyy up their butt.
Absolutely rrrreprehensible behavior!

Haaaave you been to Edmonton?
The place that pioneered those aggravating flashing speed signs?
The place where free traffic flow through a traffic circle was just way too far?
The place where skiing on a mountain is reckless, so heres a hill that makes COP look like Everest?
That Edmonton?

No, not those two. May they live forever in cushy, high-paying senior leadership positions in the Oilers hockey operatoins

Indeed. They'll be needed to rebuild from the ashes. The glorious, glorious ashes!

A couple nights ago the Oilers announcers were trying to spin Lucic being behind the play as a good thing, something along the lines of McDavid being able to get it in and pass it back to him.
