We already saw how it would look early last season when Sam was playing center. Amazing. Jooris and Frolik fit in perfectly at RW.

But Monahan/Hudler looked hopeless on line two so they had to re-unite Johnny with Monny.

Then have a Monahan/Tkachuk pairing for the future.

A player on each line to make space, and one to make the plays.
Time will tell, and Bennett could outpace Monahan. But for now, Monahan is the undisputed #1. The MacKinnon talk is silly because he's also a C.

You're better off trading less assets for a winger who can play on the top line.

Monahan is the perfect linemate for Johnny because he just knows where to go and doesn't miss when the puck is on his stick. He scores a lot of goals into wide open cages which doesn't look as impressive on a highlight pack. It looks easy because he's already won before the puck gets there

I agree. Monahan a pure shooting Centre. Knows Johnny, knows where to go, gets the puck and has that deadly accurate shot.

Gaudreau slashed on the hand and there's no call ... Crowd groans.

Welcome to the club, Toronto.

MacKinnon is a damn good player. Maybe a sliver better than Monahan when it comes to the '13 draft. Didn't give him enough credit before now but he's been a monster this tournament. Been better than McDavid imo.

Gaudreau slashed. No call.

Sounds like a normal hockey game.

Johnny getting slashed!

Team North America needs Troy Brouwer to protect him!

The only thing I don't like about this NA team is shift length. They are all taking longer shifts than normal and aren't getting off when they should. Especially McDavid and Mathews.

That's also why Monahan is so great. Just oozes hockey awareness and IQ that makes him make everything look so unflashy.

They'll need to correct that if they get to face Canada.

Has the first unit PP scored a single goal? It's like they're only out there to soften up the opponent.

How long was the Gaudreau line out there on the PP? 30 seconds?
